Goodbye for now...

Here's my early farewell.

For this upcoming lent, I've decided to really challenge myself... so therefore, I've decided to give up all guitar forums for the next forty days. :SHK>  Now, I know this sorta sounds like a joke, but I'm dead serious.  When I was brain storming potential things to give up, I thought up a decent list of things, but none of them were things I absolutely can't do without.  So then I took a step back to examine my day to day life, and that's when I realized how much time I spend on the internet, scoping out various guitar forums (mainly this one--darn you Larrivee!).

I think this is going to be real tough, actually.  I'm going to have to change my homepage.. modify my bookmarks toolbar (right now, it lists five different guitar forums).. etc etc.  And I can just see the days when I'll be sitting in front of the computer, bored out of my mind, wishing I had chosen something else to give up for lent... but, I think it'll be worth it.  Hopefully, it'll teach me to be more mindful of God and to just mature in my faith in general... and who knows, maybe when I get back, the forum will have drastically changed (maybe a new "Larrivee of the month"?? hint hint :GRN>).

So wish me luck, and keep me in your prayers.  Thanks!

I hope this doesn't go too deeply into religious territory...

I asked my wife (she is the church goer, and organist in our family) last night what she would be giving up for lent, and her answer surprised me.

She isn't giving up anything.

Her congregation has decided that rather than making some sort of short term personal sacrifice, for whatever reason, it will be better to accept an additional responsibility in their daily routine. eg. hug a kid, feed a kid, visit an elderly person or shut-in, give some money to a needy person, etc.

I'm in on this way of thinking.

small random acts of kindness send ripples out to the world that we don't realize.....I think that's a very "forward" thought for her church.
