I haven't had the chance to test drive a MT yet, have you found that it darkens the tone a bit?

Yep. I find that the tone is warmer and more fundamental, but less so than in the hog-tops I've played from Martin and other makers. Larrivee somehow manages hog-tops with a but more sparkle and sustain.
