Title: Interesting looking Larrivee
Post by: mattwood on November 25, 2020, 10:13:43 PM
Anyone have any experience with Lacewood back and sides? If so, what does it sound like compared to other tonewoods?

I once had a beautiful custom LS-03 with a silver oak back and sides and the nicest red spruce top I've ever seen. Gone now as the body size didn't take for me since it seems I'm locked down to the Larrivee OO's. For sale purposes I made a sound clip comparing it to my Larrivee OOV and Taylor 322 - you might find it useful.

Nice comparison.  The LS-03 sounded a little brighter to me but I don't know how much is influenced by the different tops.  Sounds similar to mahogany to my very untrained ear.

Yeah, I agree, similar in brightness to my smaller OO for some reason, with the same range of tone as mahogany back and sides. But it has distinct differences with mahogany that I could never put my finger on and never had the vocabulary to describe. Not as focused, maybe?

My understanding with GC is you can have it shipped to a local store and pick it up there. Then try it out for a month I think with the option to return. I've read it's a good idea to call the shop where it's at to get an in hand description as GC is known to be careless with the word "excellent"  Good luck!

Great thing about Guitar Center is that you have about 1 1/2 months to decide if you want to keep it or not... and return it to any local GC.
