Title: Larrivee Dreadnought
Post by: morrow22 on March 28, 2020, 07:39:19 PM
Why are all the Larrivee dreadnoughts string spacing 1 11/16"?  Everything I have is 1 3/4".   I was considering getting a D to have something different from my OM, but then I see the string spacing.  How big of an adjustment is this for fingering?

Not all of them are 1 11/16.  Both of my Brazilian Flying Eagles are 1 3/4".  They were from a special run in 1998, and I would imagine there are other special runs out there too.  I know what you mean, I do mostly fingerstyle and that extra 1/16" of space makes a big difference.

I had to sell my D03R because the spacing was too cramped. Now I have the same D09 Hoops described. While it's a small difference in spacing, it makes a big difference for me as my fingers start getting cramped and muting strings at 11/16. You can use lighter strings to make it work but then they don't sound as good.

You may want to try an "L" body which has 1 3/4" neck or an "SD", which is a 1 7/8" neck.  I have a few of the "D" bodys an "L" and an "SD".  It all depends on my mood, what I'm playing and what type of wood I'd like to hear.  Add an "L" to your stable! :)
