I sold all my guitars folks, all but two, a 2005 Larrivee L-05 vine and a 2019 new Emerald X20 ..... I bought some chrome GOTOH SGL510Z-A01 1:21 ratio drop-in tuners for the L-05, but I was wondering if I shouldn't get the 18:1 JCL tuners instead just for looks.
The original tuners had black knobs, the new have only chrome. I'm sure the GOTOHS are excellent with the 1:21 ratio, but where are the JCL tuners made? they're quite expensive.
All opinions welcome
From previous discussion regarding the JCL Faradyne Tuners:

short answer: they are made in China. Hope this is helpful.
If you want ebony knobs I understand there are still some of these left. I just put a set on my LV-09 CE and look great
as well as function!!

Thanks folks ... Japanese GOTOHS are better in that case ... might just pick up the black knobs ....thanks again!
Tuners have forever been a subject of discussion on forums, this one being no exception.
There are such a wide selection of top grade tuners around of which the Gotohs are but one top brand.
The 18:1 510's are great - smooth, precise and elegant.
For solid performers one can also consider the German-made Schaller tuners used exclusively in the beginning by Larrivee.
They also carry them on the Larrivee website at a reasonable price.

Here is the result...
The black tuners are the stock Larrivee - probably ping- tuners, the chrome are the GOTOH Deltas 21:1
They are definitely an upgrade, especially when you're using Peterson/ strobe tuners with the sweetener tunings.
I might need to change the buttons to Ebony though....or abalone if available.
Any suggestions?
I'd stick w/ Gotoh but find wood buttons. I personally don't like metal or pearl (anything flashy) next to a nice inlay because it distracts from the impact of the inlay.
Thanks, Bowie, I would too... I've been looking for them for some time... I found the small version of the buttons.. I guess I have a medium size... tuners
