I saw (can't find in the search) a Waverly style gold tuner that people have used on O3 series guitars as a replacement for the Pings.  I'm pretty sure they were Grovers or Gotohs and I'm pretty sure they were installed one time on an OM-03BW that has been sold.

If you know:
Who makes them and the model please.  Do you like them and how were they to install?  I recall you had to drill one small hole in the headstock.

Thanks.

Grover sta-tites. Great bargain.

The first listing I remember was an OM-03K by Michael Wong.

That'd be it. For some reason I had it bookmarked:

Man they look really nice.  I have a set of the Larrivee (ping) open back tuners that I swapped off my OM 50 for a set of waverlys.  I ended up using the larrivee ferrules with the waverlys because the waverly ferrules did not fit.

I would love to install the larrivee open backs on my satin parlour.  The headstock looks exactly like the headstock on the om 03 shown above.  Anyone know what he used for ferrules with the grovers he installed?  How did he deal with the old screw holes?

You can see a bit of one screw hole peeking out in one of those photos. I believe he did get some conversion bushings from Stewmac.

Yeah, those guitars from m. wong look gorgeous..

Often times I get the crazy idea of swapping out the stock tuners on my L-09 with some vintage open backs with ebony knobs(though only waverly makes these, I believe... which = mucho money!)...

So I've seen the vintage open back tuners swapped onto 03's and Parlors, but never on any 05's and higher...  Has anyone seen the swap done to 05+ headstocks? I just wonder how it'd look with the silver lining, mop logo, etc..

Jason,

Michael used Petros polish to gloss up the neck. How good of a job did it do?

One thing to keep in mind - I think the standard Larrivee headstock might be a little thicker than the traditional or Martin style so you might not get as much post on the top side (compared to the traditional installation).

I also did a set of gold Grover Sta-Tites on my OM-03W, they look great, and work very well.  get em and the conversion bushings from Stew Mac.

Hey JohnM,

How did you fill the holes that the pings left behind? or did they just happen to cover up nicely?

thanks,

Yes, the Grovers cover the single hole left by the former Pings

One question, if you were to reinstall the pings, would the new grover mounting holes be covered by the pings footprint?

hmmm... my guess is that there'd be an extra hole left at the top of the tuners.  But that's a good question.  I don't think I've ever heard of a vintage-open back to modern sealed tuners conversion before.

I'd think you were stuck with the vintage open back tuners if you converted from the Pings. I'm also interested in what some gold Sta-tites would look like on an '05 or up with that silver border on the headstock.
