I want a stand-alone workstation with a CD burner. It must be easy to use and in the neighborhood of $1200 or less. Thanks.

I'd like to spend less than $1200. Have you checked out the Boss 1180 CD? Thoughts?
Also, will my Shure SM-58 be a good enough mic for this application?
Thanks,
Brett

I've heard good things about the boss. The main reason I want the 2488 is that you get 8 tracks of recording at the same time so 8 mic,4 p[eople singing and playing all at once. The 58 should do fine in any unit.

I use a computer, but the 2488 looks nice. Compared to the Boss it has a larger drive, more tracks at once, 8 preamps instead of 2, better screen.
It is more expensive though.

Escalibore Thanks now I need to rethink all this. What I really wanted was a DA38 which is a tape unit but I've been told that getting tape is going to be hard.Oh how I long for the olds days of open real's.I'm not very good at this tech stuff I just want an 8 track........

I'm starting to be sold on moving my budget up a notch and getting a Boss 1600 CD. The reviews are compelling.

I don't think you'll have any problem finding Hi8 tape, which is what the DA-38 uses. Open reel is hard to get, and expensive, but Hi8 should be cheap for a while.
