I need a basic 4 channel pa system to use at the occassional outdoor party. Any suggestions for me on where to look or what to buy?

I don't know how much you wanted to spend.  Also, I don't have one of these systems myself, but I've heard and read a lot of good stuff in terms of quality for the $$$.

I bought a Fender Passport PD250. Great for just the thing you're talking about.

Hmmm, all good suggestions. The Yamaha looks nice, but a bit more than I was hoping to spend. The Passport is also interesting, but over my mind set $400 budget. I have a Carvin t-bolt kit guitar, and I really like it, as well as their "no middle man" business model. Their system would be in the running. I went to my local shop and they were pushing Crate systems, one as low as $299 (new on ebay for $199). Think I'll chew this over a bit. My normal inclination is to spend a bit more, being a believer in getting what you pay for. But the reality is that this system will no doubt end up in the barn with the kids. Do I need to overspend for that??!!...
