Re: Grammy Celebration Guitar Concerts in June

Hi Folks,

Recently I have organized four Grammy Celebration concerts featuring
three guitarists from the Grammy-winning CD "Henry Mancini - Pink
Guitar."

The early June concerts feature two-time Grammy winner Laurence Juber
(formerly of McCartney's Wings), virtuoso Doug Smith, and Mark Hanson
(that's me!). You will find a full description of the shows below.

Hope to see you!

"Grammy Winning Guitarists" Concerts in Southern California and Oregon
Featuring Laurence Juber, Mark Hanson and Doug Smith
Celebrating the Grammy Award for the "Henry Mancini - Pink Guitar" CD
June 3-4 & 10-11, 2005

Grammy Award winning acoustic guitarists Laurence Juber, Mark Hanson
and Doug
Smith will present Grammy celebration concerts in Southern California
and Oregon in early June. In February the three guitarists won a Grammy
award in the "Best Pop
Instrumental" category for their contributions to the "Henry Mancini -
Pink Guitar"
CD.

Two-time Grammy winner Juber is formerly a lead guitarist with Paul
McCartney's
Wings. He is an internationally recognized guitarist and composer, and
regularly
contributes music to TV and film soundtracks. He is currently a
columnist for Guitar
World Acoustic magazine.

Hanson is best known as one of the premier fingerstyle guitar educators
in the
country, having authored over 30 publications. His solo and ensemble
recordings are heard
regularly on NPR, "Martha Stewart Living," and other syndicated TV and
radio
programs.

Smith has recorded numerous solo CDs, working with Mannheim Steamroller
and
"Speed" and "Tarzan" film composer Mark Mancina. He has contributed
music to
such films as "Twister" and "Moll Flanders." His music is also heard
regularly on
syndicated TV and radio. Smith and Hanson have recorded one duo CD
together - Power of Two - and are members of Portland's Acoustic Guitar
Summit

Juber arranged and recorded Henry Mancini's "Pink Panther Theme" for
the Grammy
winning "Pink Guitar" CD. Hanson and Smith were the only artists to
appear twice
on "Pink Guitar," each contributing a solo, plus recording the only
duet on the CD, "A
Shot In The Dark."

Tickets for the concerts are $20, and, except for the Salem show, are
available online at Accent On Music's website:

SHOW SYNOPSIS
"Grammy Winning Guitarists" Night
Featuring Laurence Juber, Mark Hanson and Doug Smith
Celebrating the Grammy Award for the "Henry Mancini - Pink Guitar" CD

Mark Hanson and Doug Smith open the show with a set of scintillating
duets from
their duo album "Power of Two," interspersed with stunning solos by
both artists. Hanson
and Smith are gifted composers and arrangers for fingerstyle guitar,
and highlight
their set with intricately woven settings of both new and familiar
melodies.

After intermission, Laurence Juber presents a set of his solo
compositions and
arrangements. Having played with Paul McCartney om Wings, Juber has
unique
insight into the music of the Beatles. This is beautifully displayed in
his arrangements
of standards like "Let It Be," "Strawberry Fields Forever," and "I Saw
Her Standing
There."

The concert culminates with Hanson and Smith joining Juber for several
blistering
trios.

I may have to go to the Portland show.  FWIW I almost took lessons from Doug Smith but he lived just a little to far from me.

I heard Laurence Juber play tonight near Atlanta. He's a trully fine fingerstylist. He did the Pink Panther... fantastic! He also did some Beatle tunes, and some origonal pieces and a few other odds and ends to include a great fingerstyle version of Layla.

Layla is on my list of jam tunes to learn.

LJ is worth listening to and seeing if you get a chance.
