Yea Rob, that's right, it's Dr. Hector and the Groove Injectors. And he has recently reformed Grinderswitch.

Are you talking about Edgar Winter? I can't think of his brother"s name right now.
That would be Johnny Winter, but it sounds like these aren't who Rob is meaning.

Yea Don, that's it, Johnny Winter.

Sorry Rob, I had the wrong Winters. I can't recall the others or the song Shotgun Rider right now.

Could you hum a few bars?

Thanks for the link Don. I can't believe I somehow missed them over the years (being a die hard Toy Caldwell-Marshall Tucker, Grinderswitch, CDB, 70s country rock fan). I think I'll order their new CD.

Matt Minglewood (Band)

Maybe Ducktrapper knows these guys well ~ from down east ~ Cape Breton style

I remember going to see him about 15+ years ago in some small clubs in Toronto ~ great storyteller and some amazing tunes.  Stumbled across him again today and his tune "Me and the Boys" brought back a flood of memories.  Still a Canadian boy at heart.

Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show (for laffs).

The first couple Wings albums.

Oh no....and YES!!

Loggins and Messina (they're about to go back on tour).

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Great stuff indeed!  The Circle Unbroken 2 album set still holds up as a great of musicians playing classic songs. I believe some of Doc's finest picking was done on that album.

Good stuff.

One of the first online communities I ever joined, about eight years ago, was the Well, based on San Francisco.  The host of the Music conference there was (and for all I know still is) Rik Elswit, formerly of Dr. Hook.  He was a great guy -- highly knowledgeable about music and guitars, and also very tolerant of people who were new to online life (of whom there were many back then).

Ah yes, and do you remember WGTB when they were a 50,000 watt community radio station, WHFS in their glory days when the Einsteins still owned it (remeber Damian Einstein or Weasel???), The Rock n Roll Jukebox with Old Howard on WAMU-FM, or Felix Grant's excellent Jazz shows on WMAL-AM? Or even further back Barry Richards on WPGC? OK, so he was a clown, but he was the first to play Cream, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, etc. in the DC area.

There used to be some great radio in that town. Last time I was there it was almost all bad commercal pop radio.

I hear you. I used to go to the outdoor concerts WHFS used to throw up in Gaithersburg. Last time I was in DC I found the same thing you did on the radio....crap.  M Street has become unbearably yuppified. I used to sell the Free Press down there in late 60's. Spent a lot of time playing guitar on Dupont Circle too. Those were the days.....

I found a 76 minute tape from '75 of "Surf"  from WHFS doing a live studio show with Lowell George and Linda Ronstadt. *That* was radio.
