Hello -

I recently purchased a neat looking Larrivee classic parlor. According to the previous (original) owner, this was a prototype that was built out for him.

He said "In 2017 I was looking for a parlor style nylon. I read about Larrivee parlors and everyone said they were the best so I called them. I talked to Jean. He said they don't make a parlor sized nylon, they built one but never made them. He said he had a second prototype that had the neck and body together and if I wanted it he would build it and work out a price. So I agreed to that. I believe they still have the other one."

He did not know about the build - wood used, bracing, etc.

Would any of the experts have any insight?

You can contact Larrivee. They're pretty transparent about this stuff. They also make a ton of customs and variants so this would not be at all unusual to see. This looks much older than 2017 FWIW.

As far as woods, mahogany neck, Sitka top, east Indian rosewood back and sides.

No matter what the back story, that's one sweet looking guitar.

I would never consider buying a Larrivee under an OM size  for steel string.
But a parlor sized nylon string Larrivee is a machine gun. Humble opinion.
