The recent limited edition tuners thread got me thinking about upgrading my OO-05 buttons to 18:1 ratio tuners.

Might as well go with the ones on Larrivee's store but curious about who they get them from and if the buttons can be swapped out for Abalone like vintage white ones?

The 18:1 tuners that came with my recent purchase are a revelation to me. With my impatience with tuning I usually settle for "close enough" but now I can really go for "right on the money"

I suggest you contact Larrivee directly and ask them, as they'd be the most likely to know the answer to your question.

Thanks MM.

I've pretty much exhausted Google on this and am surprised there's no US distributor for Gotoh's complete lineup. Found some sites that listed a few models but none that sell all the Gotoh buttons separately. I just got a quote from Gotoh - Japan via Canada for about $100 for the 510s and vintage buttons but may settle for the chrome buttons I saw on Amazon.

In any event, the 510's that came on my new/old OOV have spoiled me on 18:1 tuners, they're really nice!

I finally changed the tuners on my OM from the originals to the new 18:1 's. Big positive difference.

@skyline  - Nice!

Beat me to it, I put my Gotoh's on my OO-05 and they were a nice drop in fit. Used my original screws and beveled washers. I went with the chrome butterbean buttons which are fine. Think Amazon still has a few left for a really decent price.

Tuning is wonderful, really happy with them. I think part of why I like them so much is that I use a strobe tuner on my Mac that shows those boxes going left to right where you have to get the boxes to stall completely still for the string to be exactly in tune.

With the 18:1 it's a lot easier to get the boxes to stop moving, mainly because there's zero slack when I loosen the string. Tuning from flat to sharp I can approach the exact note a bit more slowly than with the 14:1 tuners.

So, is there much of a market for used Larrivee 14:1 tuners?

I upgrade all of my acoustic guitars to Gotoh 510 tuners. I doubt there is much demand for used Larrivee tuners.

https://www.stewmac.com
has a complete line of Gotoh tuners for sale at a reasonable price. I think the price of Gotohs are fixed as most retailers are within a couple of $$$ of each other for a set of six. You’ll also find Stewmac listing tuners on Amazon

https://www.charisacoustic.com/replacement-tuner-buttons/
Has replacement knobs/buttons in many colors and materials including ebony and rosewood.

I Have the Gotoh 510 gold with black buttons ordered for my 07 OM-O3R. I like the 18:1 tuners

Spendy but Good stuff!

@Blues, Yikes “spendy’! Thanks for the links, them buttons are purty...

FWIW Gotoh has a Canada rep who will order any Gotoh tuner and Gotoh button to fit. It would take a bit of time as they order from Japan
