Sweet baby jebus, this made me cringe so hard , my gf asked me whats wrong. I kept thinking about my '75 L and how upset i would be.  I feel for that owner. :(

I don't like flying but this is a good reason not.

Offer to replace the case is an insult,me I'd get a lawyer and start my lawsuit at $100k.

Air Canada and United are partners. I despise Air Canada and will do almost anything not to fly with them. Their attitude sucks.  A new case? Like I said, Air Canada sucks. I'd fight them and, if necessary, take them to court. They didn't show proper care, at all. If you've ever seen Amee Mann's Gibson that had a similar thing happen to it, they can be fixed but it will never be as pretty.

I flew a couple times without a flight case but was lucky enough to be able to gate check it.

This kills me. First, someone travels with a guitar that rare and obviously valuable (to us who know), then a moron hits it with a forklift (I used to work in the AC industry, I know about aircraft that have been hit by machinery), and then the airline won't step up for the (not too outrageous) bucks to make it right.
I checked my "old" C-05 from the US  to Sweden in late June this year, and I sweated through all the flights until I saw it again in Sweden. Since I gave it away over there, I did not have to worry any more.
If you are a gigging and  traveling guitar player, why are you using what is basically an L-10 day to day? I question that.
Thanks to Headsup for the link.

the owner is also at fault here, a touring musician knows better.
Buy the Calton case.

last year we flew to Ireland from Toronto VIA KLM.
My guitar was carried on every flight (4 in total) by me.
on 2 occasions, the stewardess simply took the guitar and put it in a closet up front, and always delivered it to me after the flight.

You are allowed to ask, to carry a guitar on, many times they simply put it somewhere for you.

However,  Air Canada as our "national' carrier is never my first, second or third choice....

BTW I can't figure an abalone sound hole rosette for 1978....

here's more back story;

an L-10 would have had abalone  binding/edging, that's the "10" trim.
however in 1978 they were still using the original sound hole rosette.
the abalone sound hole didn't come in until mid to late eighties I believe...

If that happened to my C-10 I seriously do not know how stupid I would become, except for off the charts! Somebody would pay, that much I can say for certain.
Happily married to the woman of my dreams and looking forward to growing old together.<br />Truly,God has smiled upon this simple man.
