Yesterday I was going through the drive-thru of my local coffee shop with my bride.   As I pulled up to the window I was told by the cashier that my order had been paid for by the driver in front of me.  A kind message from my unknown benefactor was passed along by the cashier.  It was a nice gesture and a complete surprise.  I then paid for the driver behind me.  The cashier told me a chain like this went on their for something like 25 cars once.

This random act of kindness spurred me to do one.  It was encouraging.   Just thought I would pass along some good news in the midst of much bad news these days.

This is also known as "Paying it Forward" and is generally believed to be one of the nicest acts one can commit...

Good on ya!

Toll booths are a fun place to do this as well.

Once, taking a caravan of kids to the FL west coast for college, I paid the first toll for all 3 cars in my herd.

After that it became a race to see who could be first in line to pay.

Towing the trailer with my old truck, I did not win any of those.

Good times!

My wife and I are inclined to do this occasionally at restaurants by picking up the tab's of strangers. Last couple of times we were touched by watching young families, particularly when the parents were totally immersed in interacting with their children, as opposed to being totally immersed in their smartphones. Always anonymously. Fun stuff.

Here where we live there is a lot of military presence ....MUGU naval air station, Port Hueneme Seabee base, etc.  Often when we are at our favorite breakfast deli restaurant, there are lots of military folks eating .... young.....  they could be our kids.  We pay their tab, but insist it be anonymous, so the soldiers/sailors could imagine it came from anyone or everyone.
