I've been playing a 1993 L9 for years. Playing in a jam once, a gentleman came up behind me and looked over my shoulder and remarked, "Yep, a large soundhole L9."  I stopped and visited with him. He said that he had once been a Larivee rep, and recognized the sound from across the campground, and just had to make sure. So, my question is what is the normal diameter? Mine is 5". He told me that it was a rare guitar, but I didn't know whether or not to believe him. I love this old guitar, and also my 1999 L10 spruce topped koa.
My bad, it is 4". My L10 is 3 3/4".

If it has a 5" diameter soundhole, then it Is a large soundhole.  Standard is ~4"...

Larrivee has made a few large sound hole models, but I can't remember if there was an L-body one as a regular model (there were some dread models with large sound holes). If there was, it may have had another model number other than "09".

Whoa! never mind the rosewood/Mahogany sound difference, that guy has a different kind of ear...

I checked mine...the SD is 4 1/4", OOO is 3 7/8", the OO is 3 3/4", and the LS is not quite 3 3/4". The SD is of course an oversized sound hole.

Very cool. I love those large sound hole Larrivees. They give the player a better experience because of how they project.

They had an L70 series with large sound holes and headstock inlays.
