When your day is long
And the night
The night is yours alone
When you're sure you've had enough
Of this life
Well hang on
Don't let yourself go
'Cause everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone (hold on)
(Hold on) if you feel like letting go (hold on)
If you think you've had too much
Of this life
Well, hang on

'Cause everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts
Don't throw your hand
Oh, no
Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone
No, no, no, you're not alone

If you're on your own
In this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you've had too much
Of this life
To hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes
So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on

Everybody hurts

You are not alone

This is one of the songs I really enjoy listening to Anne Cline from Albany, GA play.  Great tune, but you could put the chords in there too....

Thanks for that, Danny. I've not listened to R.E.M., so I don't know their stuff, but I enjoyed that tune (if you can enjoy a song about pain). Grabbed my guitar and played along, so thanks for the chord chart, too.

Truth is this song through the years has brought tears to my eyes more than any other that I can think of.
It used to be that it made me think of others in pain and alone. Nowadays, it hits me right in the middle of my heart.
I really appreciate the singer/ songwriter  who can reach out from within thier own heart and from thier own experience touch others. And like this tune says "hold on...you're not alone"
As a believer "your not alone" directs me to the hidden one, in the midst of life storms.

It's the same reason I  listen to Jackson Browne so much. He sings from the heart and his life experiences. Listen to "For a Dancer". Bonnie once said to me as we were listening to it, "I want that song at my memorial".

Music can open a person's heart, like very few other things can.

This is the official release version. It puts bible verses up and suggests by the images reading the bible. It was a bit of a surprise to me.
"Lead me to the rock that is higher than I am" and other verses.

Amen to all of this Danny... nothing better than a song that is a rendition of the pains of life...  any song not truly felt by the performer is not a song at all...
