Hey people, anyone planning on experiencing the moon's shadow  next month? It's only 40 miles south of me, so my friend and I will be going for a ride. We will stay away from the crowds though.

Might do me some good.

My buddy said I should visit Carbondale where SIU is located during the eclipse. The show of people would be interesting.  whistling I might take his advice. Who knows,,,I might even get to meet Ozzy.  rolleye

Northern Virginia - we'll get a partial...

Am I the only one thinking of a Cat Stevens song right now? (ear worm alert!)

Well, we were only like at 68 percent, but here is a shot made through binoculars just after 1.00 PM CST onto the tile of our front porch. The tile is made in D'hanis, Texas.
(edit) Oh yeah we watched it on TV, very cool.

Lytle should be very near the path of totality for the next eclipse in 2024.

I'll be in the center of the shadow,,,if I'm still here.

James,
You fill me with optimism. Nina and I will only be 71!
Hopefully, I will still be playing my Larrivees, and not own any more than I do now!
(edit) I just checked and you are right! Getting to totality will be a short hop up a country road from here. Take 20 minutes.

Traveled to Nashville (10 hour drive) visited with my Brother in law and his wife. Her family came down from Milwaukee too. Went to a park about 5 minuted from his house.

I shot this photo with my Canon 50D DSLR and 18-200mm zoom lens.

Really great picture Mark. Is that the beginning of totality or end of. It was an experience I won't soon forget. 2024! They say it will be 4 minutes. The diamond appeared at a different position here in S Illinois.

It's the first diamond ring right before totality. During totality I was in so much awe, that I just stood there watching it and didn't take any photos. lol
