'79 Larrivee, Part II

Well, the '79 Larrivee that I bought back in January or February sat at the luthier's shop for months without getting touched - in part because he was busy (which I get - he's good), but then he got sick and has only been able to work off and on over the past few months - he was going to start working on my guitar in mid-April, but that never happened...

...so... last week he shipped my guitar to our own unclrob, better known to newbies around here as Barefoot Rob. Rob called me a while ago, the guitar arrived at his shop today! So he will be assessing it and getting back to me soon, but so far we know for sure he's going to do everything involved in the conversion to lefty (he even has a Larrivee bridge on hand that's already been converted!). Plus, whatever else it takes to make the guitar play well.

So I'll/we'll be updating you as this project moves along! Can't wait - bought this guitar six months ago, and I might actually get to play it someday!

Such a gorgeous guitar Rev!  I really love those late 70's rosettes too...

First update. The pickguard has been remove it is a couple of shades lighter the the rest of the top but that should slowly go away. The bridge has been removed and the fret dressing is underway.Though it was thought to need a neck reset but it doesn't,it was said to have a hump at the 14th fret, nope the 14th fret was way lower the the other frets and its now level with the rest.I'm working on the recrown as of right now.The new bridge will be getting glued up on Friday by Sunday or Monday I should be drilling the side dots and I just picked out a nice piece of bone for the new nut after the glue up of the bridge I'll be going thru my bone saddle blanks for a nice one with a mid-low ting.Well back to crowning, more to come.

Sounds like you're in good hands (and bare feet) here.

OK I never remember to do this but my brain was working so here are some pix. This is a before.Headstock inlay and the first few frets show wear that needed dressing.

I think Rob just meant that the first photo was of the headstock inlay...

Thanks for posting the pictures.  Interesting to see the repair in action.

Third update, sorry no pix as I can't seem to resize them and got lucky with the few that I took. The guitar is now out of clamps and the bridge is secured and the saddle from the old bridge is back in.The new side dots have been drilled and dot s glued in and clean up will happen tomorrow when I shave them flush.Tuner openings have been inlarge to fit the new tuners and tuner groments have been install,if you look at the headstock pix there were black plastic rings inlayed into the headstock and had to be left in place. On the back of the headstock the old tuner screw hole's have been filled again they will be cleaned tomorrow so I can install the new tuners.Bone nut has been installed and the slots will be cut later today.Hopefully I will be shipping the guitar back at the end of the week to Mike.Sorry I keep bothering him with calls.
