I really like the Charis buttons, saw them in a email. The gold tuners look really nice from the back but I think they cause too much contrast to the inlay. If your happy that's all that matters and I'm happy for you. The guitar of course is gorgeous.

Said better than I could.  Those buttons look great, the color contrast of the Gold against the inlay is not for me though.  (in general I really dislike gold hardware anyway though)

I think I will try a set of  Ebony knobs to replace the chrome knobs on my 50th. I think a pearloid knob would look kind of sweet too. Will the Charis buttons work on the JCL 18:1 tuners? Are the JCL 18:1 tuners really just Schaller M6 tuners with the JCL logo on them? Do I need to look for Schaller compatible knobs?

I'm in the camp that thinks the gold doesn't look good over the inlay.  Those same tuners and buttons, only in chrome, might look much better than the gold, I think.

Suppose you have the guitar for ten, twenty or more years.  How much is the cost spread out over the life of the guitar.

One might spend 100 dollars per year on STRINGS for a often/well played and beloved Larrivee.
That is my experience anyhow. Beautiful stuff like buttons and tuners are small change in the long run.
