I'm torn.  One one hand they look nice. On the other, I just can't see modifying this already gorgeous guitar.

Since I will never sell it, why not please myself?  Of course, they were drop in and I still have the original tuners.  Win-win.

I like it.  Don't mind gold hardware but have always hated gold tuner buttons. Those wood pieces look great and I think they compliment the instrument.

It's your guitar but the gold doesn't work for me.

Well, I like the buttons, because indeed, they do compliment the instrument nicely.
The tuner posts and washers, being gold, no longer blend nicely with the inlay, plus, it is shiningly evident the washers cover parts of the inlay, this was less obvious with chrome.
Does the guitar stay in tune as well as before?

Yeah I guess understatement is not really an issue.  It is a spectacular guitar.

I don't disagree. I said it was "less obvious" with chrome.
There are MANY Larrivee inlays that are partially covered by the tuner washers. I am not a fan of Wendy's designs when that is considered. I would not own such a design.
I have an L-10 with an inlay, not a picture-type such as the 50-anniversary, just a design. It fits inside the tuners.
The 50th inlay is spectacular. We all probably agree.
Without me intending to be a complete insensitive person, why would an artist work outside the limitations of the canvas, unless the canvas is intended and integrated as part of the artwork?
I have other gripes with Larrivee design, minor, as I still own 6 L-bodies, and will not likely purchase another brand, ever.

I feel pretty confident that he got some high quality tuners. I would like to know what brand.

Gotoh 510 delta 21:1.  I got the buttons from Charis Acoustic.  Very precise tuning.

I really like the Charis buttons, saw them in a email. The gold tuners look really nice from the back but I think they cause too much contrast to the inlay. If your happy that's all that matters and I'm happy for you. The guitar of course is gorgeous.

Yes, the more I look at it, the more I think silver may look better.  Dang.
