I used to have a bigger one but sold it. I ordered a small Meinl cajon which came today. I like it. Anyone else use these things?

GA-ME has a few I believe.  http://www.larriveeforum.com/smf/index.php?topic=36899.0
I think he may even have posted some videos of one being played in a group he was involved with.

We sell two different sized cajons at our fair trade store, along with about eight or ten other kinds of drums. Fun to play, that's for sure. No day at the store is complete for me without at least a little while spent drumming or playing with the singing bowls.

I want to convince a friend of mine to make a few of them. He's really good with wood and I got this little one to give him an idea what I want. Easy to find plans for them on the net.

Very easy to build with minimal skills...hope he takes you up! Off topic, but here's a couple cute drum-selling stories. First was my wife in the store on a busy summer Saturday, and in walks a guy who proceeds to play the daylights out of a few of our drums, including our larger cajon. She said he just played it fantastically and when she commented on how experienced he must be, he replied, "yeah, I've played for years and used to make a lot of drums for the Grateful Dead." She has no idea what his name was, or which of the three GD drummers he built for, and simply answered "Oh, that's nice."  blush
The second was me working and a sweet little old lady comes in and is oogling a large djembe in the window. I offer to get it out for her as well as suggesting she sit out front in one of our outdoor chairs to play. Wow...this 70 something 5'2" grey haired senior citizen just spanked the bejeebers out of that thing, drawing a crowd from along the street. I just looked at her with an inquisitive nod and she says "well, I've taught these for the past 40 years." She thought she might add it to her collection of 6 when she came back through town a week later but I sold it to a young man the next day. We've had several cool experiences with our instruments and a recent one with some "record producer" guy from L.A. who's fingers danced up one our M'biras (a sort of thumb piano). Glad we've never heard of any "fair trade" guitars cause I'd never get anything done at work!

I had a full drum kit in Canada but I sold a lot of stuff when we moved. I miss that kit. I wasn't very good but when no one was home, I loved to bang on them.

I think perhaps there's a little drummer in all of us.

I often can't sit still without tapping on something. It drives people around me crazy.   wacko

Been a dashboard drummer for 50+ years. Drives my wife nuts! How many of us played "Wipeout" on the desk at school?

Or...drumtapper...

Remember, a guitar is basically a cajon with strings on ... the outside.

We have one at my church that someone local made.    I used to play it a lot when we didn't have a regular drummer.
