I can think of some artists that I liked more as time went by but I'm having a hard time thinking of anyone that I really disliked that I now do. I can think of a lot of groups I tried to like but just couldn't but I guess that would be a new thread.

Springsteen.  Still not a fan, but I (usually) don't change the station when he comes on.

Older country in general.

Shining endorsement there!  I kind of feel the same way about the Boss - but it depends on the song.  I can't listen to "Born in the USA" any longer because of the grating keyboard sound in it.

Just thought of another list of "I listen to them now, late to the party", but not necessarily a fan of the entire catalog:

Tony Bennett
Weather Report
Jaco Pastorius
P.O.D. - This is my heavy-rock fantasy - to get to learn some of P.O.D.'s songs on guitar and/or bass and then to perform them with the band, etc.
Jimi Hendrix
Nick Drake (yes, I heard about him through the Pink Moon Volkswagen commercial - no exposure before that)
Willie Nelson
Merle Haggard

Did you warm up to them or discover them later in their careers?

That's a good question. I knew of them but disregarded their music as part of youthful ignorance for the most part. No real discovery, just a broadening of taste as I learned more about songwriting, playing out in public, learning more instruments, etc.

I ask because there are many great artists I have "discovered" who died or had their hay days before I was born or when I was too young to appreciate them.

Hank Williams
Jimmy Rogers
Robert Johnson
Charlie Christian
Django Rheinhardt
Buddy Holly
Duke Ellington
... among others not to mention the likes of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart etc.

Journey
Learning to play Journey songs on piano in High School:  it was the only thing that ever worked to get girls to come sit down beside me. Piano benches aren't very wide.  I learned a lot of Journey's Jonathan Cain era catalog!
