Just got a tip from Fishman if the guitar has a loud hum but if you touch the plug and it goes away then the PU has a bare spot all you need to do is use some metal tape cover the pu and WOOZA the noise is gone.

How coincidental! I have one that recently, like in the last 2 weeks, developed such a hum!  Thanks.

Same here - my Larrivee OM-05. So what exactly do you do with the metal tape - and is this copper shielding tape, or what? Thanks Rob!

I used silver duct tape but you can use copper tape also.Just cover the pu top, trim any hang over.According to Fishman the original coating which in the case of the one I had was a red tape or finish will wear and exspose bare silver spots.Make sure it goes on smooth and even so you don't end up with high spots. The first thing I did do was to check the jack for weak solder points. This one had the barn door type and I didn't want to have to open it and track down a bad solder point. So I called them and the tech said that in most case's the pu is the issue.

OK. I need to ask a dumb question. Is the silver duct tape just the regular duct tape you normally see that's silver colored? That silver actually has metal in it? Or is this special metal duct tape?

I wonder if metal tape would work on other pickups with a noisy problem...?

The silver duct tape is a metal tape the other stuff is grey and is fiber or brand base like onion tape which is sorta onionly and goes great on steak,

If the pu is a metal bar type I can't see why not.
