Making my D10 a D10-E

I'm thinking about adding amplification to my D10. Larrivee uses the Baggs no-cut imix system on this model. Is this something you can buy and install yourself or does it require a good luthier or does it have to go back to the factory? Are there other systems which might be better? I much prefer not to have to have any cutting done in the wood of my guitar. I use an HK Elements PA smart base (http://hkaudio.com/products.php?id=407) , so no acoustic amp, it would go straight into the PA. At the moment I mike it outwardly with an Audio-Technica ATM450 which gives a really wonderful sound but it requires good control of the position of your guitar which sometimes hampers playing a bit and I would therefore like to try it also differently. Also it would give me the opportunity to add some mild effects now and then.

Thanks for any report on experiences with this.

Cheers, Bob.

If it was me, I would opt for the LR Baggs full Anthem Tru Mic/Undersaddle pickup blend system.  The imix is an older model and uses different elements.  The full Anthem is a no-cut installation and has an under the edge of the soundhole mounted volume and mic blend controls with a battery check and phase buttons.  The Anthem SL is the same but with only a volume control, the blend is a screwdriver adjustment.  There is also a model that requires cutting the control panel into the side of the guitar ( :?)  I recommend a professional installation.  You should be able to find someone capable of doing it professionally in your area?

I rather avoid putting anything under the saddle. Ibeam for me   thanks.

I like the Anthem SL,as it has a smaller foot print inside the guitar. If your afraid of drilling a hole in your bridge slot as there is an under the saddle pickup and if the guitar doesn't have a pre-drilled end pin bring it to a pro.You will also have to shave the saddle to keep you action were it is.You can also check the Baggs Active IBeam or the K+K units.

My last two installations have been the K&K Pure Mini and I really like the results, but when I have Larrivee install it new I get the Anthem.  The ibeam makes the top too touchy for my clumsy style and a guitar can get noisy from handling with some pickups.  You may want to mention whether you play mostly fingerstyle or flat pick, I know that is a factor for some applications.  Thank the heavens we have many different choices for amplifying our guitars... and most of them are good.

Thanks all for all the advice and comments. I'm still pondering because whatever road I take it does seem a little daunting and I really do not want anything to go wrong with my guitar.

Thanks again, cheers, Bob.
