The key cracks in my OM-03R have just about closed up but the finish is still a mess. I still have to wick some CA glue in to stabilize them but the finish is still all checked in that area. A couple of questions come to mind:

1: will the CA discolor the wood? Normally, I would use a spit coat of shellac but this is a finished guitar, not a new build

2: will shellac even bond to poly or do I have to sand down to bare wood?

Instead of the CA use wood glue.Shellac will blend and bind with the poly finish.

Thanks, unclrob. I'll give it a try. One more question: do you have any recommendations on how to get a cleat attached? I cannot for the life of me reach all the way inside an OM.

I haven't had it strung up since before Halloween. I miss playing it.

I've never really been a cleat kinda of tech.I have found that if properly glued the seperation and there is no problem with the brace's that's all you need.Oh ya given enough time your forearm will develope a hinge so you can reach in pretty far.

It ain't the angle, it's the size of the soundhole. I'm not a big guy but I swear I feel like I've got Popeye forearms or something.

Anyway, when the break first happened things didn't line up. Then the RH tumbled and I didn't humidify so fibers shrank and it's all flush again. It seems like the wrong thing to do but I'm thinking that maybe I should stick in some Dampits and see if it will close up some now.

Ya you can try that or use a large clamp and slowly bring the crack together.I sometime's use a bike tire tube instead of a clamp slowly turning it drawing the crack together.
