Hi everyone, just got a used Larrivee L 05. The label says

L05 Custom
Limited Edition
Quilted Mahogany
#22 of 50
California USA

Anyone got more information about this model? I'm interested to know if there's a story behind it? Thanks.

My guess is no real story other than a limited edition of 50 because of the quilted mahogany.  The serial number on neck block emailed to Larrivee would give you an exact birthday.  I know they did something like this about 2 years ago so its likely from this edition and if so may have an Italian spruce top

I believe that you are looking at the Long & McQuade 50th Anniversary Signature model.  L&M is located in Toronto with many locations across Canada and they had JCL produce 50 numbered L bodies with quilted mahogany and a spruce top.  The labels were signed by Jean and they came with a certificate of authenticity.  I have one myself and it is a keeper.

I switched the tuners out for a set of Gotoh 510s.  If you need any further information on these instruments, just let me know.  I can't remember what year this was (maybe 5 or 6 years ago) or which number I managed to snag, but I can look it up when I get home. I actually have one of the promo sheets that were used to market these guitars.

Thanks Jim, for the information.

These are beautiful guitars! I manage to google a 'promo flyer' that stated: Master grade Spruce and AAA grade Quilted Mahogany. Is that right?

Anyway I'm thinking of install a pickup... what are you using on yours? Any recommendations?

rayma, yes, they are beauties (I could never consider selling this one, even though it's not my "go to" guitar).  One of the kids will eventually have this one!  No pick ups on my Larrys- straight acoutic all the way...

I have an LR Baggs Element Active System (undersaddle transducer/piezo) in my D-03 and I'm happy with it. But, on the recommendation of several of the guys at our local mom 'n' pop store (all of whom I have known for years and trust), I'm getting ready to put an LR Baggs M1 Active (magnetic soundhole) in my new C-10. As I said, it's a magnetic soundhole pickup, but also sense the vibrations from the top, and the guys in the shop all give it two thumbs up - I'll let you know in a week or two what I think about it.

Suggest you go with the K & K for your pickup. They work well with the K & K preamp for me.
