Hope you don't mind me jumping in here but it's kind of related to the original post:

I was wondering - Unclrob - as a lover of 12 strings and also experienced with K&K products: Do you know whether the 'K&K Pure 12 string' fits on the bridge plate of a Larrivee 12 or am I best off going with the standard Pure mini for my new L03R 12 (which I am loving by the way - going to get it set up and electrics installed in the new year)?

Cheers

I've install mini's and the full size one's with basically the same result. When the K+K first came out I installed them on the bridge itself so I could experiment with placement and found the standard install for a 6 string worked just fine.

For the record my I prefer mic's for my 12 string,my Guild had the GHS A137 internal mic until it had its...semi fatal event shall we say.Its temp. replacement now has the mic in it.When I can I also use the GHS A133 external mic, when I can't use a large diaphram mic.I really like the Baggs Anthem SL and will concider it after my Guild gets better.

my PV-09 came with the K & K, it sounds terrific, however, be prepared to have an external pre-amp available.

Hey unclrob,

I've installed a regular k&k on one of my Blackwoods a few years ago. I'm finding it's a bit heavy on the bass so I called k&k who said I should have installed the mini.

I told them that they recommended the regular system in the first place... arrrgggh!

Can I remove the regular pickups without damaging my bridge?

Thanks!

Hang my friend good to hear from you!!!!How's life? There is no easy way to remove them when they are installed using the superglue method, best thing I can tell you is what I have done but remember I'm nuts and my forarm bends in the middle.I have a piece of a chisel that's really sharp and I slide it under the pu and rock it back and forth gently like while gently pushing under. It takes time but I end up with very, very little tear out.Other the that I have a friend who is a fellow lunatic tech that uses the brute force and ignorance technic which he's say works but does end up with a bit more tear out nothing major. One of the reason's I'm not a fan of K+K.I now use some heavy duty doublesided 3M tape for installing them. Not the crap that comes with the pu which is a major pain to work with.

watching this thread with great interest, as I've been procrastinating on a pickup for a fine quality dread I have that I want to do as little modification as possible to, while still providing great amplification, and have been told many times that K&K is the bomb.

Just want to say Thanks unclrob, we're blessed to have you on board.

Kimo thanks always glad to help.Though the K+K is a good pu I have always found them to hot and needing the preamp just to balance them out.Of the systems I like the mini best but over all I prefer the Baggs pu's I have been using Ibeams both passive an active for a really long time and I'm very happy.I ordered an Anthem SL system a while back to put through the pace's in my Guild JF30.My duo partner plays the Guild but wouldn't use it at gigs because it sounded so different then when he played it on the couch at the time it had the active Ibeam in it.Now it has the Anthem SL and he's playing it live.I just got the Lyric in and will be putting thru its pace's before posting a review, its going in my LS10.

OK,K+K people you can beat me up now I can take it. blush

sound preferences are so subjective. One man's holy grail is another mans dixie cup.

I've been following the banter regarding the Baggs p'ups as well. The active lyric holds appeal. I don't like having to use a preamp. I want to plug into the DI and go.

Can you incorporate one of those vintage jacks into that rig? Am I overdoing it with that concern?

My dread is a 1/150, built by Bourgeois in '95. I just don't want to mess with it. Although from the sound of things. the 3 transducer discs cause as much or more "modification" should someone ever choose to remove it.

You'd have to check with K+K I'm not sure if the have an active jack.I'm not sure if the K+K offboard preamp have a direct out on them. The PARA from Baggs is an eq and direct box all in one.If your tech can det some better quality double sided tape other then the stuff provided the K+K are an easy in and out.
