Is there no available site for getting full resolution recordings of contemporary and past music--I don't mean specialist audiophile dreck--music people want to listen to, current Pop or classical releases etc. I'm not coming across anything in my searches. I don't know iTunes. Does it have a catalogue wav. equivalent, or library of 16/44 material?

Edit: came across a few actually, although somewhat niche label and classical. What about standard pop stuff. Is that always released online as lossy format? Still looking...

Not a huge catalog, but more than I expected:  https://www.hdtracks.com/

And I realize you are looking for popular music - but if you are willing to wade through www.bandcamp.com has many artists that have lossless FLAC files for download as well as lossless .wav (FLAC are around half the size of the .wav files).

Some bigger artists are on bandcamp, but it's mostly lesser known folks.  Here's the genre breakdown.  http://bandcamp.com/discover

Thanks Scott, I mention pop thinking if mass market material is available in flac or wav then everything else must be too somewhere. Classical labels like Hyperion and DG in your links--I'd have use for those. The other seems pretty indie. I'm probably past cool enough to explore that. I thought the search was going to give nothing so things are better than expected.
