The flavor of espresso is what I love.

Intense coffee flavor without bitterness. It's like why I like David Gilmour's slow burn solos better than a shredder's solo.  I will listen to both but Gilmour is preferred by my soul

Static causing you issues with fine grind in your grinder?  Solution is way simpler than I expected.  Stir one drop of water into each tablespoon of unground beans just prior to grinding.  Solves 'jumping ground coffee' from static electricity about 80-90%.

Static issues? Like causing a fire at a gas station, or a blow up at a sawmill?
Burn your house down and lose all your Larrivee guitars?
Fire extinguisher on the counter next to your coffee grinder?
I still like my Mr. Coffee and the HEB Classic blend.... no danger there. Nice and mellow way to start my day.

I love coffee, and have been through many coffee phases - press, espresso machine, grinding beans at home, etc.  I also like going to my local hipster coffee shop for nitro coffee.  But I've recently come full circle at home and starting using old school Maxwell House.  I like it just as well.

Great suggestion about static grinds.

Amazing what we Westerners will spend on coffee. Don't get me wrong - I can't stand "bad coffee"! But for me, "bad" coffee is the weak stuff the ladies make at church (I think cuz they're trying to stretch it as far as they can!).

My wife and I actually like good ol' Krogers brand Columbian 'Medium Dark'. It's actually quite good.

And we still have one of these old things that we use from time to time (ours is the electric one that plugs in via the detachable cord...):

Far too spoiled here... I often get gift cards for coffee shops for Christmas (clearly people know about my serious caffeine addiction).  My church has both drip coffee (free) made from freshly ground beans and an espresso stand (fairly inexpensive if you are used to paying $5+ for mocha).  But then again, here in Bellingham, it is grey and rainy all winter, most of the spring and fall, and much of the summer.  And the daylight lasts for about 6 hours in the winter.  I think the fact that I am never more than a couple minutes away from an espresso stand is adaptation to keep us all somewhat sane.  :coffee

I just spent $2.73 on a Starbucks coffee.  Hardly ever do this, though.  Crazy!

Can't remember the last time I had a coffee. Likely 9-10 years ago. Tea, probably not in 8.

There was a time when 20-30 cups a day was normal.

Don't miss it.

The only downside: The smell in a typical coffee shop is unbearable.

ST, Why did you give it up ?

Hi Lynne,

I don't want to rain on the coffee parade. So I'll give you only two reasons:

By all accounts, I am a considerably nicer person since I stopped consuming caffeine.

When I counted up the minutes consumed daily the time spent in a year was staggering. Don't do the math on the money, it may depress you. But for anyone who pauses over the investment value of a guitar, stop drinking coffee and tea and see where that gets you.

20-30 cups per day?!?  That's kind of impressive but at my age I would have to pee every five minutes with that kind of intake.  I drink 16 oz per day.  It's a quality over quantity thing for me. Same story with beer, about 1 beer per week for me, but it's weighed a nice toasty toasty stout or some kind of wheat beer.  Unless it's summer and I have to go there Phoenix for work- then I take advantage of the hotel bar happy hour Rolling Rock they have on tap.

36 mugs of water per day would be possibly too much water!

Coffee thread arises from the ashes!!!

Kids bought me a burr grinder for Christmas. Nice except there's so much static in the group me coffee hopper that it makes a mess trying t get all the ground coffee out. Any tips?  Already tried rubbing the outside of the container with a dryer sheet. No luck there.
If your static issue is not fully resolved with a drop of water, try using a small atomizer (fine mist of water spray).  My late wife had several small bottles for this and that and a few other things.  I cleaned one out thoroughly and use it when I grind the beans (Pharos hand-grinder:  pro burrs with arm strengthening exercise  :laughin:).
Play it daily for best results.

In addition to my half cup in the morning, I started drinking a cup in the late afternoon and I'm loving it. Gives me energy through the last half of the day and makes me far more productive.
Still enjoying that Canadian Kicking Horse, though I'm looking to try some others.
