Has anyone ever heard of this particular new system? Has anyone tried it out, yet? What are your experiences?

I came across this video when I was shopping for guitar parts so that made me kinda curious. (I personally do not like the sound of the under saddle pick-ups I came across so far, and this might be a useful alternative....)

Ben, I haven't tried this specific system, although I have made similar builds (using a Crown GLM100 or Audio Technica 831b) for my own use. Doug Young, of Acoustic Guitar Magazine, has written an article on the Meridian system http://www.acguitar.com/article/default.aspx?articleid=25746

You're welcome. A microphone can be a wonderful supplement to an existing system.

Ben,you missed the part about not having any money. crying

Right now my acoustic rig is a GHS A33 mic that I velcro to the side of the guitar and I place the mic over the 15/16 fret,a wireless headset mic that I've rigged to my harmonica rack and a cheap {soon to be upgraded} lapel mic for vocals. The headset and lapel mic's are wireless as stated and I have plans of picking up a Line 6 wireless for the mic's that are are mounted to the guitars. This K+K intrigg's me.The reason for running vocals thru the lapel is I'm not real good at singing into a mic on a stand.

When playing loud electric bands I use the Baggs Ibeam active that are mounted in my Guild JF30/12 and my LS09FM.

I reallt can just put up with an acoustic with a pu,I much preffer mic's and own a bunch of nice one's.

Can't you order it as a kind of prototype to see how it works (to recommend it to potential customers, for example)? Companies in Germany often provide this option for retailers, repairmen, etc... or does the US Commercial Code differ from the German one in that regard? Just trying to help you get a new mic system here

Ben most companies won't do that here.Dean Markley is the only company that did.About 15 years ago I got wind of a different type of UTS pu called a Sweet Spot,I called about them got to take with the inventor and he sent me 5 or 6 .I installed them in my guitars and a few players I knew are sent them a review.Great people at Dean Markley.

Zohn I did an install of that system and didn't care for it.It didn't sound natural to me and in a mix of acoustic and electric instrument you couldn't get the volumn needed to blend.I will say for a solo player or for recording it was alright but for me it has to work in all area's live.

A microphone inside a guitar is going to sound a lot different than a guitar miced from the outside.

If the MXL 550/551R Microphone Ensemble caught your eye, don’t worry, it caught mine as well! For starters, this studio microphone is gorgeous! The red finish really adds a unique touch to it, and I am willing to bet that if you had this in the booth, you’d get a lot of compliments on it. Okay, okay, you’re saying, “it looks good – how well does it perform?” I’m here to tell you, so-so. You can’t have the looks AND the brains.

The thing about the MXL 550/551R is that it’s not a bad studio microphone, but it isn’t a GREAT studio microphone either. For the average studio producer who just wants to mix some vocals in over a beat, the MXL 550 will get the job done. However, for those who prefer the smooth and vintage sound that MXL is known for, they will be disappointed. The MXL 550 comes off sounding a little robotic, which to the untrained ear is no biggie. For those who consider themselves professionals, then that robotic sound will be the primary reason they pass up on this condenser microphone.

Here are the product features:

Internally wired with world-class Mogami® cable

FET preamp with electrically balanced output for uncompromised performance

The perfect vocal/instrument kit on the road or in the studio

Comes with plastic carrying case & mic stand adapters

Here’s what other owners of the MXL 550/551R have to say:

All in all, if you are looking for a budget studio microphone that looks sweet then this is the microphone for you. The price is great, and the quality is decent, so its safe to say that you can pull the trigger on this one. You can also get the MXL 550 with free shipping, if you look hard enough.

I intentionally am resurrecting this thread.  Just ran across one of these systems for sale on e-Bay.

I didn't know K+K had a mounting system like this available.  The only other system I know of is from DPA and that's a big pile of money.  This system is only $240 street (if eBay is accurate), including the mic, the clamp and a pre-amp.

Anybody using this?
