I'd like to suggest that when we come across spam posts, that we quote them into a new message here like this one that just showed up.

If we do this (instead of posting a reply to the original post)

• we have one central place where we can all report new spam (easier for the moderators to watch)
• we avoid bumping that post up to the top of the "unread messages queue"
• we deny the spammers the satisfaction of getting notifications when someone posts a reply in their new threads

It's easy to do - Just hit the little quote button above an offending messsage, then select the text and copy it to your clipboard. Do not post a reply in the original thread. Instead, come here and post the copied text into a new message.  You don't have to post any commentary (unless you really feel you need to say something about it). Most spam is self-explanatory.

By the way, what is meant by the "notify"selection of the options attached to each post?  I thought it might be a way of "reporting" spam or whatever, so I clicked on it and got a window that has a meaning I don't understand so I cancelled it.  Excuse my ignorance, but what does "notify" mean?

Hi Kurt,

Edit - Notify turns on email notifications so that you get an email if someone replies to a discussion in which you have posted. I think this is turned on by default.

This is not a mechanism used to report offending posts.

We must be using different themes. I don't see a notify button on my screen anywhere.

I guess I should have said at the top and bottom of each thread (not post).  There are 5 (blue in my case) tabs with the options of  Reply|Notify|Mark Unread|Send this topic|Print
I was wondering what the Notify tab was for.  I think I figured it out though.  Is it that if you click on that tab, you will be notified of any replies to your posts in that thread?  I'm so embarrased

Got him.     I've banned 4 spammers already today.   I had no idea we were under attack like this.    Pharmaceutical peddlers seem to be drawn here.  I suppose it's like this on all forums.

Every two days I have to delete about 250 entries like the ones above from the guestbook of my band's homepage. Don't know how they are doing it, since we do have security measures to avoid spam...

Ben they have there ways.I get about 20 attacks a week and I have all sorts of virus protection programs.If you go to Craigs List or any simular sites and post your email will get all sorts of cr*p attacks.I've gotten emails from people selling me all sorts of stuff,I've been banned from CL some many time's it silly{of coarse these are just ways for some piece of s**t trying to get into my computer}I get about 100 emails a day and maybe one or two are real all the others are some sort of business trying to get me too join.My website email gets hit about the same amount it almost make's me wish I didn't have a computer.
