A lot of my Nick Drake enthusiast friends have been paying tribute to Nick Drake, who died on this day in 1974, from an overdose of prescribed anti-depressants.  He was only 26, but left behind some of the most melodic and haunting songs of the 20th century.

I've been learning my way around windows live media editor, so I made a sort of tribute video tonight, a cover of the song that made him so famous, from its use in a Volkswagen commercial in 1999, prompting almost instant record sales that outstripped the total sales of the previous 31 years. He sold only a few thousand records before his premature death.  He is now often noted as an influence for many of the worlds greatest artists.

Thanks for this Ben, I always enjoy your Drake renditions.  It's a particularly grim night here in Ottawa to be thinking back on his afflicted life.

I'll put his albums on rotation as I settle into doing some painting.

A nice gentle & simple rendition  :thumbsup

36 years ago !.... think I would have been at primary school in 74.... heck, there was some dross in the charts then if you have a look, guess he just got missed out amongst all the spangly attired glam lady-boys and prog rock....

Made a wrong turn on my bike and ended up pedalling through his village last year.  Made a nice detour.

I have a full tab of "Far Leys" which you'll find on a couple of the "home tapes" albums if you want it ..... its an instrumental so at least it'll stop you singing  :humour:

Where would we be without these "tragic" musicians? Here's to Nick!  :beer

Thanks for that wonderful compliment  :doh

I've got a pretty good tab for that one. I've printed out tabs from various sources to form a complete set I believe. Lyrics too. It's my best read book!!

Very enjoyable as usual Ben - think you have nailed the Drake guitar style   :thumb

Ha, I'm currently working on Three Hours. That's when you learn that you really don't have the Drake guitar down. It is a monster of a song to learn.

Thanks for watching Phil.
