Today I e-mailed Matthew and asked if it was possible to do an all satin finish on an RS-2 (instead of just the neck in satin).

He said yes, and in a few hours had picked out a light body (left-handed, no less) and had a satin finish on it...he said he thinks it's pretty killer looking and might make a few more...

...here are a few pics.

He said it would be done in a couple more days...I'm not excited!!!  rolleye

I'll say it first:  nice guitar

Yeah, I was amazed at his quick response and turn around on this - SAME DAY! Wow!

Yup - pics as soon as I get it, but there's still some details to work out as to shipping, etc. I'm hoping it can come to the dealer in Omaha, but that may not happen; I'll know tomorrow.

(I don't know which I'm more excited about - this or the incoming D-03 with Italian Spruce top!)

The amber satin RS-2 is now officially "ordered" through my local Larrivee dealer - which is nice; that way it doesn't have to ship twice!

I'm very excited about this, because when I first saw the RS-2's I assumed they would have more of a satin finish (like an old Gibson Special or Junior); I was never too crazy about the gloss finish on these, but still wanted one.  This is the best of both worlds - can't wait to hear these P-90's! This will be my first P-90 equipped guitar.  How's the noise with these pickups compared to your other single coils (and humbuckers)?

I'll keep you posted!

Matthew sent me an e-mail around noon my time today - the RS-2 shipped today!

Not only that, he said my D-03 Italian Spruce also shipped - and he said they're both awesome guitars with some very nice wood on 'em!

I'm almost reeling from how fast this whole deal went down! I first thought of it Tuesday evening, e-mailed Matthew and talked to the store Wednesday, and Friday the guitar ships - it will probably be here next Wednesday!

Rev,

I am telling you that you got the "FIRE" under Matthew somehow! whistling

That has got to be a record on going from checking on a new finish
to actually getting that exact guitar!

The RS-2 has arrived - so quickly it 'bout made my head spin!

It's very nice: one piece body and neck; nice rosewood board, the pickups sound incredible (!), and it's very light on your shoulder.

I am going to take it back to the store and have it set up "professionally" by them (as part of the purchase warranty), because it will need a new nut to get the string spacing where I want it; I want the two outside E strings spread out a little more (the low E is way too close to the A string for comfort ), and I'm going to let him also tweak the neck, bridge/saddle height and intonation.

But right now I'm too busy enjoying playing it - good gracious this thing sounds mean and sweet - gives new meaning to the phrase "bite me" - and I'm not saying that to be rude or crude. This thing could totally replace my Telecasters!

A few pics for the voyeurs in the house (you know who you are):

If you look closely at the pics of the back of the guitar (like the one below) you can see that the body has the amber tint to it, but the neck is natural - very similar, but slightly different.

Also, I'm not sure what the "Larrivee" logo inlay on the headstock is - it almost looks like maple, but I'm sure it's not.

I think of couple of these in satin with no stain or color at all (natural mahogany) would be very cool...let that grain show through 100%!!!

Mike,

You *need* one of these in your *collection* - better e-mail Matthew and tell him to pick you out a good one.

And the beauty of these is that the body is very thin, but resonant - I feel like I'm holding a Parker Fly, it's so light! And with a decent fabric strap, there's no neck dive issues when standing up.

I spend some more time playing this thing and dialing it in with my Carr Rambler and Full Drive 2 last night; what a blast!  Lots of tonal territory residing in these pickups, controls and the 25.5" scale length. I'm looking forward to a set-up and getting my own strings on 'er! (BTW, does anyone know what strings Larrivee is using right now? After about an hour of playing yesterday, my finger tips were BLACK!)

I never should have looked at that. The pictures of the guitar on the couch are unbearable. That's the best looking electric guitar I have ever seen. I really, really should not have looked at that.

I started looking at ALL the posts and other websites about the RS-2. Sometimes the pickups are black. Can you get black P-90's? What about chrome? Anyone know the answer?
