Any time line yet guys . The RS 2 is a beauty. My brother likes the tone better than the RS 4 - not me BUT I like it. A somewhat different animal than the 4 really

Jerry has the order of RS-2's in as we speak! Jerry's been super busy for the last
6 weeks finishing his new "STORE" their in Sarasota,FL and we haven't spoken
in regards to the RS-2's during that time frame!

I'll see how things go this week!

So how would you describe the difference in tone between the 2 and 4? Curious because I am thinking of a 2 with P90's.

Ahhh in simple terms the 2 is darker and warmer with the 4 being brighter surely due to the Maple. Now I luv maple on both electrics and acoustics thus is my preference. Some like my bro are the opposite.

Yours with the P90 will be a different animal again as my 2 has the HB

Of course, then there's the reasoning that says uncovered humbuckers (on the all hog RS-2) are brighter/clearer than covered buckers (on the RS-4 with maple top)...so which guitar will actually be "brighter"?

A covered humbucker will throtle the treble slightly - very slightly. What causes it is Eddy Currents. Eddy currents develop across the flat surfaces of the cover, and effect the shape/strength of the magnetic window above the pickup. An un-covered pickup "can" sound louder and fatter - People started doing this with PAF's early on because they realized they could potentially get more tone (which is somewhat debatable) out of the pup by taking off the cover. To my ears, covered pickups have a particularly cool vintage vibe, where un-covered have a more modern tone.

do a google search on eddy currents - facinating stuff.

Rev,

You can go to the bank on it!

I am methodically getting to the point where I will only have P-90 and HB based guitars!
I still love the SC tones from STRATS and TELES but I gravitate towards the fatter punchier
tones of the P-90's and HB's!

Yep, depending on the song and band context, both types of pickups have their place...it's all good!
