The 70's. The Beatles broke up but Abbey Road (released in September '69) ends one and begins another decade with a big bang. Dylan, Springsteen, Van Morrison, David Bowie and Neil Young become institutions. 60's bands like The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, The Kinks et al had their ups and downs as they continued their merry and not so merry ways. Exile on Main Street may be the quintessential 70's statement. The best bands that I think of as 70's bands however ...

Little Feat
Graham Parker and the Rumour
Elvis Costello and the Attractions
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Led Zeppelin
CSN(Y)
Steely Dan
Eagles
Sex Pistols
New York Dolls
Clash
Talking Heads
Ramones

What do we do with the likes of CCR, The Band or Traffic? Started in 60's and petered out in the 70's.

Gentle Giant played at a little dive here in Baltimore for several years in a row.  I regularly saw them with my feet resting on the stage.  Good golly, what a band.  Gary Green and Malcolm Mortimer have a new thing going they call "Three Friends".

After finding Genesis Live in the "cutout bin", my musical life changed forever.   For the better.

Golden Earing, T-Rex, Poco, Toto, Straits (ok, late 70's...)
"To me...music exists to elevate us as far as possible above everyday life." ~ Gabriel Faure

Many of my faves on the list.  Must add Cheap Trick.

The other day I was listening to some old stuff by Sparks.

As a PS, that was the first Genesis Live...  in '72 (or 73, maybe).

Ed

All of the above!  :winkin: and likely many more too, what a wonderful era.
