From the undisputed master of wood selection and top voicing, this provides some insight into selecting top wood based on his many years (over 5000 builds) of experience.

Thanks for this.  It really confirms how nicely cut the spruce tops on my Larries are!

The term "medullary rays" was new to me and with a little research was quite interesting. Always referred to it as silking.  Thanks for the link.

Dana has always stated that he could make a lot of nice guitars out of wood most players would reject, on looks alone.

I am hoping he continues this series and shows us how he adjusts brace size and shape based on tap tone.

Interesting indeed.
Here's what they sound like:

Definitely on my dream list.  I've played only two, but they were amazing.

If my prognosis for my life expectancy was a bit better I would have one of these in my hands as fast as I could find one.

Cedar is nice, although I prefer old growth redwood.

Thanks ronmac I really enjoyed that.

Here is some silking or 'medullary rays' on my P-03 which shows that 'bottom of the range' Larrivee's can get reasonable tops.
