Does anyone know where I can find some inexpensive close fit/exact fit replacement buttons for the ping tuners on my D-03? Apparently a lot of people have a hard time finding these.
Sincerely,
-The Hickman

Fits full size but not the mini pings, most schaller/gotoh buttons will fit the pings well. I got a set of mini tortoise from Rothesay and they work perfectly on the full size pings. Very high quality hand made, but pricey.

I have some Schaller ebony buttons that are a very sloppy fit on my full size Pings.
They turn about 1/16 of a turn before the shaft moves.  Tightening the screw does not help.

I have some Grover replacement buttons from Crazyparts that fit nice and snug, with zero slop.

These are listed as fitting Pings also.  From the same supplier, the Schallers are not listed as Ping replacements.

Also while restringing my Uke today, I tried the Grover Mini buttons on my full sized Pings with the sloppy buttons.
Pretty snug fit, needed a tiny bit of encourgement but they fit,....much better than the others.
Too bad I only have 4 on my uke.
FQMS has both sizes of Grover tunerbuttons on thier site, but are currently backordered.

Michael T, those buttons look very very nice on those gold tuners.  Sweet looking headstock.   :thumb

Thanks! They did turn out well, I put Amber buttons with gold on L05-12 string but they are a new release from Gotoh and came with the tuners. The Pings just felt sloopy after only about a year & a half.

I'd like to change the buttons on my Seagull - Ping minis. Anybody know where to look?

So, I was able to find meassurements for the Schaller/Gotoh tuners, but for the life of me I can't find ANY info on Ping Machine Heads! This is crazy! does this company even exist anymore?!  :laughin: I'm trying to find messurements for full sized ping tuners. does anyone know? I neither want to pay for a tech to tell (unless I have to) nor do I have the tools to messure them myself.  :?

BTW, Michael T that headstock is amazing!  :nice guitar:

Thanks, I don't know the measurements for the pings I tried to find out about them before changing mine out too, no luck. I just did not like them at all so I changed them on both my Larrivees to Gotoh. BTW here's the 12 with the Ambers.

Ok, during my long search my quality buttons that are VERY affordable, that fit ping tuners....I found this wonderful store on ebay. These are handmade tuner buttons (Taiwan) made to fit Der Jung Tuners (Chinese made). The are very snug, no slop or slip. This guy ships his product VERY fast and he is very  very nice! For all those looking for quality and "affordability" (aka cheap), these are it. Below is a few pics of my new Taiwanese Hinoki Wood Buttons on my '98 D-03.

This is the link to the store i baught them on:

Those look nice. The link you put up doesn't take me to a ebay store though. Unless I'm missing something.

I found out you have to click on an Item. Then the buttons come up.

Are you sure those are Pings?  In early 98 Larrivee was still using Gotoh tuners.  They look just like the (I believe) Gotoh's on my 98 OM-03RE.  My understanding was the tuner switch happened at the same time as the truss rod switch.

Off to the e-bay store regardless.   :bgrin:

Edit: just ordered some Ebony Buttons.

I worked on his guitar and they sure looked like old Pings to me. And I have seen at least 10 sets of Pings. (no more ...please)

There are 2 listings for the Hinoki button wood you showed.
Both have the same Part #, But list different hole sizes  ??

Do you know which size you ordered?

Since first reading your post, and seeing this difference in many of the exotic wood, ebony and Ivoriod buttons,
I have been measuring to the best of my ability without a real dial caliper.
On my the pings on my L, OM and LS the flat sides of the button axle are 1/8" or about .125 or 3.18mm.

I would like to order some Ebony replacements for the Schaller Ebony buttons on my F-One that are very sloppy fit and
make tuning an adventrue. ( almost ordered the Grover buttons from FQMS today, but got busy carving and shaping a new nut)

I ordered These:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380192479956&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Similar in style to Schaller buttons.

If they fit, great. If not. Well, it's not the only guitar in the house.

Now, is there an easy way to tell the difference between the Ping Tuners Larrivee is using now, and the Gotoh tuners Larrivee used to use?
These are the old ones at stewmac, with the Schaler style buttons.
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Gotoh_Tuners/Gotoh_Large_Schaller-style_Knob_Tuners.html?tab=Pictures#detailsHERE

Which, pretty much look like the current Pings. *grumble*

The link that I quoted you on should be the right size.
Hole:4.2mm(0.16") and 3.2mm(0.12")

These were a bit snug, but I used a light mallet to tap them in. VERY LIGHTLY. They do not come with the screws or washers. these are buttons only.

I recd a sample inlaid ebony button, as well as a metal one, from this store. I could not get either to fit onto my Ping minis, or Ping regulars. I remember posting asking if anyone had some dead Ping machine heads to send him to help him make them fit better.  Maybe he's solved it on his own - I hope so - I really wanted to replace all the metal buttons on my 12 string -

If anyone gets these working on the minis, please let me know!

Bunch of Larrivees - all good -
and a wife that still puts up with me, which is the best -
