I liked the Dean Markley Alchemy Gold Bronze CL 12-54's. They were very bright the first few days , but then they seemed to compliment the 'grand' very nicely.

Chris--

Sorry, I neglected to read the FAQs on the Seagull Site.  My buddy must have gone up a guage without adjusting the truss rod and/or banged it pretty good right at the bridge.  He is known for being a bit rough with his guitar, and cedar is softer than spruce.

I think they're one of the best sounding guitars around, especially considering what little they go for.  I wish you well with yours.

No problem. In fact I appreciate how most often Forum members look out for each other.  I am going to keep a close watch on the bridge and top.  But it plays really easy with the med.s and there is NO change in relief or the top so far. May be your friend got a lemon? Or they changed the spec. While cedar is softer, this top is fairly thick all considered.

And I appreciate your comment on the sound. I am very happy -  a Larrivee would have been great, but I see/hear no reason to apologize for this one.  A real bargain, and North American!

Are you also cautioning about med's? Or offering well considered sonic advice? :cheers

I bought an Ami (cedar) for my wife to learn on. I wish I would have gotten her a spruce top though, as the the sound projects better (IMO) when strummed, but sounds great for picking. If I was to do itover again I would have hunted down a Larrivee Parlor. They are way better..

I just had to join this forum to reply to this thread. Congrats on the new Seagull! For sure a Coastline Grand will be my next guitar purchase. I found one in a store and have been back twice-couldn't put it down either time, but I am being careful with my spending these days (although even with the Q1 electronics, it was CHEAP CHEAP I thought).

Thanks, Mikey. I LOVED that Grand! Ironically, I  soon traded it toward a CA Cargo which is perfect for what I bought the Seagull to do, and I love it. But I missed the Grand! Later I got my P-09 which is an incredible guitar that I adore. And I still miss the Coastline Grand!! I wouldn't give up any of my present fleet, but I wish I had held on to that Seagull. They are wonderful guitars.

Congrats on your seagull purchase. Aside from the puffy plastic rosette I fell for the Ami cedar top in black, witch has a Lawrence mag sound hole pu for plugging in to my tube amp and the Ami cedar top sunburst for my traveling guit. Killer guitars for only $260. can't go wrong there. My friend bought the Seagull cedar parlor and loves it. All good  :bgrin:for now.

Congrats on your Grand! I loved mine for the time I had it. Only thing I didn't like was it marked very easily!

I just traded mine straight across for an A & L Folk; cedar/cherry. Didn't mean to, just happened! This lady, way smaller than me, saw my Seagull and said, "I want it! It's just my size!"  :laughin:  I had compassion on her! In my opinion she got the better deal as the Seagull had a way better finish and cedar quality than her A & L. I don't know how she played it though, as the strings are so high! I will get them lowered this week.

I travelled with the Seagull, and played plugged in. People were amazed at the projection and quality of the sound. They actually snickered when I came out with this tiny guitar strapped on, but then they were pleasantly surprised with what came out. I just decided the size of it didn't look good on me, so was going to get a bigger one anyway, hence the trade. Once I get the action lowered, I'll decide whether to keep the A & L or not!

Oh....I bought a good padded gig bag when I bought the Seagull; then I bought a TRIC case that fits it very well. The A & L came with a cheap, unpadded gig bag, but I had an empty TRIC case that fits it perfectly. I've had no problem with these cases on planes.

Well, I just bought my Coastline Grand Q1 in Edmonton, and am just waiting for it to get shipped here (should just be a day or two...). It was a bit lame compared to the first one I tried in Vancouver, but after the clerk put new strings on it, it livened up and became just as good as the first one, so I bought it. The reason I am getting it shipped (free of charge!) is because they were getting a TRIC case from their warehouse, and I can't wait to have it in my hot little hands! Will keep you all posted...

I quickly changed my dead strings for Med PB, and it was an amazing transformation.

Well, IT CAME!!!! Even though I tried and loved it before I bought it, I am so happy! It is strung with D'Addario Custom Lites and I replaced the wound G with an unwound .17, which I began doing on my other acoustic (lets you bend the G a bit more like an electric, which is what I mainly play). This is a FINE guitar, and I can see me spending many happy hours on it! I got it with the Q1 electronics, which sounded pretty darn good when I tried it at the shop, but I haven't plugged it in at home yet. The Q1 package also has a built-in tuner, which is handy and very easy to use. I'm gonna go play ity for a while now...bye!

Congratulations!

I got mine yesterday and I'm really enjoying the little guy.

Has anyone put a pick-guard on this guitar?

I would like to keep the top looking nice.
