If money was no object, then I'd have some 510s on there tomorrow.  Nice tuners.

I finally brought my FIII to my luthier and I will have nothing to play but the FIV.  Woe is me...
I know I sure can't top the feel of the F-III with any of my other gits.
The F-IV is all I hoped for and then some.
But the F-III is just an elegant understated bling instrument. It's the one I play when I really want a song to sound right.

I haven't had ANY problems with the Pings. The thought was basically for looks, but, now I can't afford the Grovers. My F-III stays in tune, & tunes easily. No problems. Same with my F-IV. Just liked the looks of the open-gear tuners with the vintage looking buttons. If it works, why fix it? They look better! Down the road upgrade!
Dan, I feel the same about my F-III. The F-IV, being a big guy, was one I thought would be too small. Not only is the sound huge, but it sits just fine when I play it. And, it will only get better with time? Both of these guitars, as I've found with alot of Larrivees, sounded amazing right out of the case. Intonation is spot on with both, but my fav is my F-III. Makes everything sound better? bigrin

I was busy and didn't have chance to change the strings. About to do it now.

What kind of strings did Larrivee install on it, D'Addario EXP17?  I guess the pins that came with the guitar are plastic.  Has any one so far upgrade the pins yet? What would you recommend and how do they sound?

I know some 00-03' specials were strung with EXP 16's as well, so...

The pins are TUSQ!!! not Plastic!

Don't be too hard on him - I thought they were plastic, too...they sure sound like plastic when you drop them on a wood-top desk or a tile floor! (I traded mine out with the black ones that were on my D-03R; I may switch them back next string change if they're TUSQ.)

I decided to stay stock. I like the look, and far from convinced the pins make any sound change beyond minutia. If I change, it will be for cosmetic reasons.... (sigh)

I'm with cke. Have bone on my F-III, but have no need to swap the Tusq out yet. Didn't really need to on my F-III, was just trying to see how they'd sound & liked it. Like the Pings, they work well, so no need to swap those out yet. A cosmetic option? The pins are a subjective thing, some hearing a difference, others not. Everyone's ears are different, so a matter of choice? Some try to match the pins with the buttons (ebony), which does look nice, but the ebony isn't as bright IMO. The Tusq are just fine for now, like the Pings. Coffee or tea?

Pardon continued interruptions from an interloper (I got a wonderful 00-03 Special instead of F-IV). I changed the strings from EXP 16's to 17's  Very little difference in tension, but a nice meaty tone that sounds so nice - not that it wasn't good before - more tone and less 'string sound' if that makes sense. Plus fuller bass. Such a lovely balance! Works so well between my L and new P.

Pardon again. I think it best to keep a new git stock and get used to it. Then when and if I make changes, I really know if I hear a difference. And after conversations with Matthew, I want to give Ping and TUSQ a real workout for an extended period.  He really believes in them, and I am inclined in that direction. (MY 00 has Schaller's, my P Ping's, my L Gotoh's  + all have Tusq nut and saddle except the L which came with bone saddle)  If I didn't like how it sounded out of the factory, I wouldn't have bought it.

Chris, I have the same problem with some threads. All is appreciated, as you seem to know alot about what you post.
My only problem with my bone pins on my F-III is that they're a little loose in the hole. Seat well after strings are tightened. Pings are cheaper than Gotohs, Grovers, Schallers, etc., keeping the costs on the -03 series down. Matthew had told me that not much money is made from the -03 series. Hopes are that many will upgrade to a higher series. But, if they keep making these "cheaper" guitars so good, we all know the value in them & will keep buying them. Not saying the more expensive ones aren't great, but love the -03 series offerings!

The #27 F-IV is due here in Seattle tomorrow.  I'll spend at least 24 hours with it before gushing reporting about it.

Seriously, I'll be very honest.  Some of you know I was not happy with the F-III as it arrived.  Those issues are mostly behind now.

The package route looks very strange. Starts in Chicago, goes to Canada, back to New Jersey and on to Germany?

I haven't yet BUT I ordered the full meal deal and asked Mr. HOLLER to put mine on the bottom of his pile as I have another NGD in the shute any day now thus was in no hurry. Therefore I expect I will likely be last.

Exactly what I thought before...
If you go to Reply #1647 on page 83 of this thread, I had asked the same question.
Lets see if #10 arrives safely in one piece.   wacko

I was wondering why we hadn't heard any news from Nova Scotia!

Two more pics:

Fit and finish are excellent.  I love the Grovers and am very happy I had Jim install them.

First impressions often mean a lot.  The F-IV's first impression is much better than the F-III.
