Hi,

I'd like to get some opinions on this "idea". Pls feel free to list out your pro's & con's:

Buying a traditional Larrivee e.g. D50 or D60 and changing the tuningheads to the contemporary ones. Has anyone ever tried this and succeeded/ failed? I figured if it is hard for me to find a D05/ D09 for sale, why not buy the traditional ones (@ a good price) and just change the tuners to the modern enclosed ones ...

thoughts??

thanks

It should work, but I'd try out the tuners and see if you really don't like them before changing them -

You might have visible holes left in the headstock. What's wrong with open backs? They certainly look better.

The quality of the newer open back tuners are just as good as sealed one's.If you do change them out save them in case you latter decide to sell the guitar.Do have the old srcew hole's filled.

The post holes might also have to be reamed out. Just my 2¢ but I'd stick with a D-05 or D-09.

If you don't like the open back tuners that came with the guitar, you could probably swap them out with Gotoh 510s. Check the post length and spacing. I had an L-03R and switched them to Gotoh's without a hitch ~ plus it looked pretty swank

I understand that the Waverly tuners are great. I had difficulty with these open backs - can't accept them.
