After three hours of troubles, war, tragedy and human suffering.
"The Deer Hunter" ends after Nick's burial with the well bonded group of friends about to eat breakfast. Emotions are flowing, then they begin singing "God Bless America".

This film has some flaws, but won five academy awards. And that's the best version of God Bless America I can think of.

Good night.

Maybe it was because of my age when I first saw it in the theatre, but no movie has stuck with me more than Deer Hunter and to this day I am still trying to understand conflict

I admit that I've been away - and have been known to kill conversations and cause awkward silences - but it refuse to let this thread die. Reading back just a couple of pages though, I think something positive need be said: today is my birthday. I'm 48 and feel like I've earned every wrinkle and emerging gray hair. The only reason I'm up so late/early is that my gut is telling me that sweets and beer don't mix well. Still, I'm enjoying the occasion with my wife and 10yo son by getting away from our cares for a few days down in. Canaan Valley, WV. I wish I'd brought our bicycles as I have discovered that there are lots of trails around here.

Happy Birthday mate! And yep, sweets and beer don't mix. See, you're getting wiser with age!

Cheers, Scott.

Happy birthday, Neil!  Beer and sweets can be okay, but sometimes beer and more beer don't mix!     Hope the family fun is, indeed, fun.

It's Tuesday, @ 1:30 CST - anyone around today?

Still enjoying vacation time with my kids and grandkids, but did have to break away and get some work done today...

Also still coughing and hacking, trying to get rid of a major chest cold - ugh!

Actually, vacation was last week - ended last Tuesday. But I'm taking a day or a morning or afternoon here and there while my daughter and granddaughter are still here from Japan (for about 2 more weeks; they fly back August 1st).

She just announced to my wife and I last night that she is pregnant with #2!!! She did two pregnancy tests - one she brought with her from Japan, and the other she bought yesterday while we were at Wal-Mart. We are very excited - especially since she has such a hard time getting pregnant because of her Type 1 Diabetes, and other "female" problems. God is good!

Our other daughter and our 6-month old grandson (who live 90 minutes away) have been spending as much time at our home while older sister is here, so it just feels like vacation while they're here, even though I have to work.

The weather here has been UNREAL lately! This morning when we woke up it was 50F ! I think the high today was 75F... On August 8th!  We could use some rain (for crops), but other than that, no complaints - wish it could stay like this right into fall...

After starting a new topic and writing quite a bit. It all vanished. Big brother? Or just a glitch?
Either way I am not going to write it all again.

Did you post something that disappeared after you posted?

I see. Happens to me too. Especially if I take too long to think about it, while trying to make the words so perfect that no one could fail to understand.
I also get weird "60 seconds since some posted from your ISP" or something.
Then I figure it is just karma saying "no".
