Can't let this fall off the front page...

...so, tell the truth - what year did YOU graduate from High School? (Since it's graduation time in most parts of the country...)

For me, it was the Bicentennial year - 1976.

BONUS QUESTION: If you played guitar at the time, what was your #1 guitar?

Mike was a righty Alvarez dreadnaught flipped over and played lefty. (Later sold it to a girl in college who did play right-handed; she loaned it to Harry Chapin when he came to our campus to do a concert, but his Martin got on the wrong plane... I always felt bad for him that he had to do his concert with that Alvarez - but it was kinda cool to watch him play my old guitar!)

Graduated high school in 1967.  My guitar was a 1965 Fender Telecaster...  Wish I still had it.

1980. No guitar then. I didn't start playing until 1981. First guitar purchased was an 1981 Ibanez Ragtime Special, "Specially Designed for the Finger Picker" "Handcrafted in Japan" Still have that guitar. Traded it for a 1986 Collectors Edition Ovation. My then Fiancee was not happy about that. So unbeknown to me she goes and buys it back from the store where I traded it. Gave it to me as a wedding gift. Needless to say, it will never be sold. It's in dire need of some internal brace repair, neck reset etc. It's is no longer played, but it is still loved.

1971.
Main guitar - Yamaha six string acoustic. Not one of their best, but nice.
Gave it away when I left Illinois in 76. No room on the motorcycle.

Would have been 1970, but I quit. Had a Fender Strat for awhile.
Got my G.E.D. in 73 at University of Houston, then went to Junior college.
That's about when I got my first nice acoustic guitar. A Gibson dread, called a Heritage. I traded my pick up and my Sigma M for it.

I had a Peavey Milestone purchased @ '85-86... a lefty. Don't even remember what I traded it for, but I did have it for at least 5-8 years. The lefties came in any color you wanted, as long as it was black (Thank you Hartley and Mr. Ford!).

1971.  Miller High School, Regina Saskatchewan.  My axe was a Silvertone "deluxe model" (model 26952) acoustic that my mum had bought for my 13th bday.  It was more or less like an OM style guitar MIJ.

It was a decent guitar and the one I basically learned to play on.  I played it in church and "coffee houses" all through high school.  I had it until 1972 when I accidentally knocked it over and broke the headstock.  I had no idea back then that it could be repaired so I threw it away.

A few years ago, I saw the exact same guitar on Kijiji.  I instantly recognized it even though I hadn't seen one in over 40 years.  I just had to buy it.  It was in pretty good shape but had terrible action.  I was able to set it up nicely and it sounded and played pretty good.  I have since re-sold it.  I have attached some pics of it here.

1985.... well I left school at the end of year 10 to start my Fitting and Turning apprenticeship.
Guitar at the time was a Canora Strat painted up to look like Eddie Van Halens guitar. Didn't own, or want an acoustic at that stage.

Cheers, Scott.

It's just too dang quiet around here these days!!!  angry

Isn't anyone buying any gear? I'm surprised we haven't heard from anyone else about buying the 50th Annie / 50th option package (I think we've heard from 3 buyers/potential buyers of the 50th guitar).

I'm waiting on an older, '79 Larrivee L-19 - the guy who was going to convert it for me has been too sick to get to it, so it's going from MN to FL this week to see Barefoot Rob/unclrob!

Thanks, Rob!

Did you sell your LS-10?

I have way too many guitars myself. Plus I'm not into bling that much. The LSV-11 model and the OM-10E were the the highest bling level I got into.
Though the OO-05 SH/MH was a fine looker, being a Custom model.

The four Larrivee models I have left are simple, but special in thier own way.
     Forum III # 1
99  O-01 parlor, repaired and refinished, ie. "The O progect"
2000 D-02. A fine dreadnaught, my favorite dred (of the ones I have)
OO-40R    Got to be one of the best Larrivee has put out in its price range.  I still want to put a gloss finish on it some day.  Not a buff out, a real gloss finish.

My #1 Larrivee is also an OM - my OM-05 built in 1992 (during Larrivee's 25th anniversary year); it will turn 25 in October during this 50th anniversary year for Larrivee.

We'll see if that L-19 can give it some competition for the #1 spot (it will also have to edge out a 2012 Martin D-18 that's currently #2).
