I don't have many good memories of being with my biological father, but one is of watching Rawhide.

Same here Danny, dad was usually intoxicated and rarely home but when he was, the TV was on and it was Rawhide, Combat or my favorite, the Red Skelton Show.

Red Skelton, now there is memory from childhood along with Ed Sullivan. I also liked Matt Dillon and Chester in Gunsmoke. TV seemed more wholesome and healthier back then...

Gunsmoke was only in black and white till about 1965. It ran for many more years in color after that. And miss Kitty did indeed have red hair, not imagined.

I had no idea it was ever on in color... I went into the service and overseas about that time (Germany and Viet Nam) and returned late '69 and seldom watched TV....
I never have been a big TV watcher except for football....

I remember our first color TV, sometime around 1967 or '68. I don't know how my parents pulled it off because we didn't have a lot of money. A 16" Sylvania. Black painted metal box with legs, and we had it for many years. 3 channels and 1 part time UHF channel. I, being the youngest, was our version of a remote control.

I can really identify with that, especially being the "remote control". Only I was the oldest of seven kids so that privilege got delegated down pretty quickly. I remember seeing my first color TV on display at a Sears store in about 1965 or 1966. It was pretty awesome, I thought. If I remember, our first color TV was a 23" Electrohome model (or whatever was the biggest size at the time). I think we got it in 1967. Not long after we got it, my brother and I got into a spat when my parents weren't home. He threw a broom at me, spear-like, and it hit the screen of that new TV. Luckily, it didn't break. You never saw two kids make up as quickly as we did after that incident. My folks never found out about it, but we had to do some major convincing of our younger siblings not to tell on us.

I have vague memories of having to adjust the rabbit ears while everyone else sat there and told me whether I was doing it right or not.....sometime having to just stand there for awhile holding them in a particular position. I'm sure that standing directly behind the tube did wonders for my overall health.

Gunsmoke is on every afternoon on ME TV followed by Bonanza then back to back episodes of The Rifleman.
ME TV is Memorable Entertainment Television.
Just a little PSA.
