I was trying to think of something brilliant to add to this discussion, but in the end...

I got nothing.

Wait a minute
Back a few pages in post 3683 I commented "I think shutting it down would be unfair to all the future forum members who have not had a chance to post. Somewhere there are young people who will someday get a Larrivee. This thread connects the distant past to the far future. It is an investment."

So now Mark comes along, a nice young man of age 55 with no Larrivee, and we managed to keep the thread going for his benefit. He is the young person who will someday get a Larrivee.

Mission accomplished.

Mark,

After your spectacular donut and coffee introduction earlier, I'd say you don't need to do any more heavy lifting today.

Does anybody know why pine has not been considered as a good wood for guitar tops?  It is similar to spruce in many ways, being a softwood with straight grain, etc.  Why just spruce, cedar, and even redwood, but not pine?

I believe that pine may be oily and it kinda smell's bad.
