Actualy ravens are very intelligent for birds and its been proven that they soar around on wind currents together just to have fun. Crows are intelligent as well, vultures are dumb.

Ravens absolutely soar just for the pleasure of it.  It happens right over the ravine and river right behind our house.  We have watched them many times.  On a hot day, if the wind is blowing towards the steep bank on our side of the river, it is directed upslope and creates very strong thermals.  The ravens fly to the bottom, catch a thermal and let it carry them up at least 3 or 4 hundred feet above the ground before they drop out and fly back to the bottom again.  They do this as a group (family?) activity.

We don't have them in central Texas but we do have crows. Such smart creatures if you observe them carefully.  I wish I could see the ravens playing together on the wind. It's one of my fantasies as well. It has to be a blast for them.

If I can swing it, I'll try and get some pics next time I see them playing.

I'd love to see it and my daughter who just graduated from U.C. Davis with a degree in Fish, wildlife and environmental conservation would enjoy it as well. She has been up on the coast of lake Erie studying birds the last few months. I relish the fact that I can share my joy of observing these amazing creatures with her.

good question.  For the sake of argument, let's say that a thread has been "ended" if it has not had any posts for period of 6 months.    OK.  So I will do an analysis of all threads which have not had any activity for 6 months or longer and see who was the last person to post on each one and then make a spreadsheet with the data and it should conclusively prove who is the biggest thread-ender of all.    I'll post the results here.

tuffy, you are a glutton for punishment!

But it will be interesting to see the results...

Let's take wagers on who it is... I'll say it's unclrob, just for fun!
