Scott if your considering a Les Paul go for the 53 or 54 style.2 P90's and a wrap-a-round tailpiece,Its the only one that was worth a da**.I had a chance to get an Oxblood modal but just didn't have the dime.Think Neil Young. His was a goldtop painted black.
Is this the one that Neil uses the half discharged battery in? I don't know much on electrics but have heard that Neil's unique electric sound is partially caused by using low voltage pre-amps?

I don't know about the battery I do know he has some really cool gagits that attach to his old Fender amp.I know that the neck pickup is a square magnet alnico 5 magnet and the bridge pickup came off a Firebird.I've seen him play other Bigsbyed 53/54 goldtop Les Pauls some with the archtop style metal bridge and some with the wrap-a-round.

I heard this happened with a 9Volt battery being half discharged when he was playing one time, then he developed that unique sound and now he has his guitar tech discharge them at concerts.
So he sets up the gits and puts in bad batteries and Neil is ready to go.

I never noticed any active pickups or preamps in any of his guitars.Maybe in his pedals.

Hey Uncle, yeah Id really like one of those, but the only way thats gonna happen is if i buy a '54 reissue Goldtop, and I just dont have the coin for one of those. They're about double the price of the traditional model.
Kinda got myself back into Humbucker mode with the Epiphone Dot that I put Seymour Duncan '59s into.
The Traditional Les Pauls have Gibson '57 Classic pickups already in 'em too, which is a bonus for me. I let you know how it pans out. Still not 100% sure if I can swing it yet!
Cheers, Scott.

Scott at least its a goldtop much more traditional then a burst in my book.Ya I know the 54 reissue are pricey, thats why I bought a Chiness Gretsch Duo jet.Sorta Les Paul body.I put some P90's in it and can get fairly close to the tone.Paid $200 for the Gretsch had the P90's floating around in a box and the guitar came with a real Bigsby.

Read any good books lately? Like "Goodbye, Forum" by Phillip Roth; or "Farewell to Thread" by Ernst Hemingway?

Because the guy above him in the tenth row just couldn't hold it any longer.
