It's amazing how much his playing has progressed in such a short amount of time.  He's definitely got the talent to be one of the big names!

sure is
I've watched him from his first video -

he really improved a lot when he upgraded to the Lakewood guitar and spent time with ULLi Bögershausen
here is Ulli playing ' It could have been '  ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eM2zd3BRGI

here is Shunga playing a duet with Ulli  ===> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPsbxZqeQns

those Lakewood guitars sure sound nice.

Larry, I criticised the Beatles medly the other day.  I did, however, note how much I like a lot of his other tunes.

This is one of my favourites, and to me flows beautifully as a piece he is clearly inspired by, enjoys playing, and 'feels'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUmQNWAIiRc&feature=channel_page

I could listen to him playing this type of stuff all day long.

oh yea....OH YEA !  - one of my favorites too ! -
when I first heard it...my thoughts..."beautiful, my how he has grown as a guitarist"

The harmonics at the end sound nice and did you notice the way he smiled when he did that part ?
By this time he was beginning to 'open up' - as far as showing some emotion.

How would you like to browse through that library in his room ?
I'd like to know what's in it !

Ben, this sounds like something you might play some day !

I thought that once, then I woke up.  I tried to learn some Andy McKee a year or so ago, and failed, but I might have another go.  I love his albums.

afterall, Andy McKee could not play like Andy McKee until he practiced for years  bigrin

Based on what I've heard so far, I think you could do it.

I don't know.
...first noticed him using  the fingerpicks after he upgraded to the Lakewood guitar.
It really makes the melody notes clear

the ostinato in the beginning and then the main daytripper riff is a very difficult skill (then riff with melody on top). I was trying the beginning this morning and fought it like hell. Usually the pulse is in the lows typically with guitar, I could not get it.

He's even got a web site: http://www.sunghajung.com/xe/ . Lakewood Guitars is capitalizing on his popularity (as well they should). Check them out, too: http://www.lakewood.de/ . It's too bad they don't have distributors in the US.

yes, when he first began it sounded nice - set the groove - but when he added the other elements, I was trying to play it in my head
and ....well, I think I need a faster processor and a larger hard drive

The scary part is.....Sungha seemed to pick this up with ease - and he looks smooth and relaxed playing it.

I'm a beginner PLus, at fingerstyle, and know I'll never reach the level the boy is at now,
but I'm hoping someday I may be able to reach the level he was at when he first posted -
especially would like to play some of the 60s 70s classics like he did back then -
for example - his California Dreamin' version, etc...

I think the very first video I ever saw him was his simple (yet beautiful to me) version of the old Sketter Davis classic - End of the World-
...had never heard anyone do that solo fingerstyle before.

I'm still surprised at how Sungha likes the old 60s and 70s stuff. He seems to pick the ones that have really good melodies.
That told me from the beginning that he was someone who really enjoyed music.

Yes - LAKEWOOD - when Shungha first showed up playing a Lakewood I checked them out - expensive, German as I recall, wonderful tone for finger style. I think Shungha was influenced by ULLi and his Lakewood.

Sungha's  "While My Guitar Gentle Weeps" - just posted.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsmtekPP4wM&feature=sub

This was arranged by Laurance Juber - band member with Paul Mc.C

I think its perfect for Sungha -.....really like his interpretation of this arrangement  bigrin

This version is a mix of old style and new.
He uses some percusive elements, adds in a little light jazz, retains some 60s folk / rock,
and I can see elements of classical sprinkled in -
Sungha took some classical training for a while -  don't know if he continues it or not.
Maybe someone else knows the details.

Sungha's classical talents -
his latest video - Bolero -    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaU0C87P4AM&feature=sub

He had some classical training but I don't know if he is continuing that training.

His abilities in so many different styles at such a young age have caused me to think he will one day be
touring the world as a famous guitarist.
...and to think that he has not yet started High School - what a gifted young man.
