It's solid flamed maple back and sides and I think the top may be a South American Mahogany. But then it has the darker stripes also. I will strip the finish and I think it will be lighter when I'm done. With a mirror it still does appear to be a brownish red though.
                        So anybody recognize it?

I'll replace the maple bridge with a rosewood also.

Hard to see detail, but I agree with you - I'd say mahogany.

I'd rethink the bridge replacement, unless there are other issues. It kinda goes with the sides and binding - maybe stain it a little darker?

Dan, it looks like the back of a Larrivee that was on Ebay yesterday, with the same light stripe @ the joint. Mahogany, as you know, can have those darker stripes. The one on Ebay had a mahogany back like I've never seen, looking like your top. Looked today & it was gone. Cool looking guitar, though!

I will pull the maple anyway and strip the top, so I'll place a rosewood bridge on it and post a pic. I am also removing the neck to refinish the entire guitar. It's a custom made here in Austin in 2004, but I have no idea who made it.
This does look like some mahogany I have seen from Belize.

Nice project you've got going!  The top looks like hog to me as well.  Any type of spruce doesn't have the vertical grain like that.  Are you going to keep it basically the same?  One thing I've changed my tune on is natural maple.  I like the light color stain that Taylor uses on maple, and the light to medum also seen on a lot of sycamore guitars.
