Best I have dealt with in my neck of the woods is David Munn (luthier) in Asbury, Iowa. Fast and quality work.

Tucker Barrett in Brattleboro VT is excellent. He's does plenty of work for
http://www.mapleleafmusic.com/Maple Leaf Music
(a fine guitar shop!) and did a wonderful job on a neck reset and refret on my old Gurian S3M.

I may be grasping at something non-existent, but does anyone know any guitar techs that are good around Moncton, New Brunswick, up here in Canada? I saw an Ottawa listing in the thread, so I won't give up without asking.

My Forum IV was repaired at Lutherie MF in Montreal. They did a good job at a reasonable price.

Okabekah, from some of the postings I think it might be surprising how many "maritimers" are on this forum. Can't help you out for Moncton though. I have nothing but good to say about Dave Palmer at Tony's Music Box in Fredericton. He's busy so some patience may be required on turnaround time but he's a straight shooter and does excellent repair and setup work.
I've also used Gary Williams in Saint John for setup work and would use him again. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Hey guys!
Tom Dodson is the guy to use. He is just south of Atlanta, Ga. in the town of Jackson, Ga. I have had a great experience with him. I will use him for all my guitar work if possible!
www.dodsonguitars.com
is his website. You can get all his info there. Use him if you can get to him! He is great!

I already posted about North Star Music, and Joe there is my main guy. But I just had some work done on my D-03R by the good folks at Rockhause Music on the southwest side of Milwaukee. They have worked on electrics for me in the past and done great work. But they made this dread play just killer ... tapped in some high frets, etc ...

Aaron Andrews Guitars in Seattle.

He's done two fantastic setups for me and some very nice fret leveling work. He knows his stuff.

Third time is the charm!
I just had my new acquisition set up by Randy Perkins at RIT Music in Holland, MI. and he did another superb job! This is my third guitar to be set up and, if you're close, he is well worth it. Here is his bio (note that he apprenticed under Del Langejans which I understand is pronounced "L-onions"):

I remain a firm believer in finding a good guitar tech and supporting him.
f
ps/ unclrob, if I were in the panhandle of FL you'd be my choice.

Joe at
Guitars United
is the only authorized dealer in Larrivees in Jax, FL area. He is also a luthier. He has done some minor work for me (strap button, ebony bridge pins, setup/cleanup/care) on my03-RE and my Tele. Haven't needed anything major yet (might need some fretwork done soon - see other post).

I'll be having my first ever setup done by this fellow. He comes highly recommended by ex-forumite PortHueneme, and covers the Ventura County area.
http://www.guitartechcorner.com/
I'll report in a few weeks how it was. I am also having a west African hard ivory nut/saddle installed. I'll have him work on Maddie as a starter.

You are probably gonna love what that WAHI saddle does for you, I would call him and add the nut too, hardest material that Colosi recommends for nuts and I can't think of any open chords that don't have some open strings that would not benefit from it too, especially the sustain and blending.

Rich Beck in Tempe, Arizona. Works out of his garage, does great work and is a great resource about guitar repairs of all kinds and history. Been doing for over 30 years.
Rich Beck guitars

Rich Beck is a great luthier, especially if you're left handed. He's a natural lefty, but plays both ways, so he especially knows how to do lefties. He repaired my Larrivee when I gave her a nice size crack. Another lefty friend of mine has Rich do all of his guitars. Every single one of them plays perfectly.

Great thread. Thanks for starting it!
I highly recommend J. Thomas Davis Guitars in Columbus, OH. Always excellent results from these guys. They know their stuff plain and simple. Apart from the custom ordered guitars that Tom builds, this is a repair and restoration shop only. I'm always amazed at how good their set ups are. Never used them for major repairs but word of mouth is very good. Here's their website...

ps. Per Uncl Robs remark about greasing the wheels,
They like pizza from The Pizza House on Lincoln Ave
Awesome!!! Just when I was about to give up searching for someone like this I find this post. I've got to give these guys a call asap.

I can recommend the tech, Carl, at Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse, Wisc. - he did a nice job re-gluing my F-IV bridge, only took a week and $100 plus tax and tip - guitar sounds better than ever and I got to explore Dave's a bit and play a lovely 00 all hog Collings (light, sweet and gorgeous and $$$$) and an OM Gloss Rainsong $$, very nice.
If you are ever in the area - check out the place - a museum upstairs w/ walls of classic electrics - also viewable on their website:
http://davesguitar.com/
just click on personal collection.
Thanks also to unclrob for his advice and offers of assistance.
(re-posted here from my thread on "Forum IV bridge lifting" per suggestion - thanks Roger)

I'm pretty new to this forum, but wanted to share that I do fretted instrument repair here in Philadelphia. Because this is not my full-time job, my wait times can be a little bit long (of course, they're long for the f/t luthiers too!) but my prices are very reasonable. Happy to provide references, etc.
I can be reached at luthiotter at gmail dot com
