Denis is 'one of our own' - here is my review of his first CD -
It came in this morning's mail and I just finished listeninig so my thoughts are fresh

I'm going to do it from a movie perspective -
I've selected 6 scenes from my movie for his 6 selections.

1. A Little Bit
It's a scene by the fireside. They speak a little and say a lot with their eyes.
soft, sweet, romantic, energized, full of potential and hope
- this one reminds me a lot of James Taylor style but with more energy

2. Samuel
The style changes to primarliy an alternating bass style - full of action and life, positive, happy -hopeful of the future
In this sceen a young man and woman are driving down a beautiful country lane in springtime in a sports car covertable
, flowers are in bloom , birds are singing-

3. Derivatives  (My favorite )
kind of like a 'happy' blues  :bgrin:
- used this one for the opening sceen of the movie.

4. After the Battle
change in style again - minor chords, somber, serious but with determination
I'm thinking old time western sceen for this one-
the 'good guy' has come upon the sceen where a 'bad guy' has done a bad deed,
the 'good guy' looks it over , emotions run high and deep, with eyes fixed on the horizon he mounts his
horse and rides off quickly in the direction of the bad guy - we know he's gonna' win.

5. Havre-aux-maisons
imagine a ballet - she is light, graceful, quick, he is strong but gentile,
each is good, together 1+1 =3

6. Firstborn
the movie has a happy ending and this song says it just right.

As a fingerstyle guitarist myself, I like the moods these songs invoke.....
and the techniques used to achieve them.
If you're looking for guitar slapping percussion sounds and overuse of harmonics,
and lightning speed scale runs designed to impress this CD is not for you.

If you like good fingerstyle acoustic guitar solos, with solid technique, good melodies, and creative use of alternate tunings
that make for good 'listening' - then I recommend this CD to you.

I did not listen to the CD with the purpose in mind to put each song under a microscope and detect any flaw.
As a guitarist, no flaws in technique caught my ear...it may well be because there were not any.

Could it have been better ?
Yes, there could have been 10 or 12 songs rather than 6.

Nice artwork Denis.
I'm rating this one 5 doughnuts out of 5
:donut :donut :donut :donut :donut

Thanks Larry.  I'm glad you like it.  Now if only it was you that was responsible for putting music into movies!

I am not near a good of a critic as Larry.  I have Dennis's CD, and it is quite good.  I downloaded it to my IPOD and when I was at the gym today- I had my eyes closed listening, and wishing that was me playing that, and at the same time hearing the inspiration in the songs-  Dennis- did you write your own songs?  If so supper job on that as well as the music.  THANKS

I listened to this today as well!!!
